To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Ive recently seen the new build, but its giving me a lot of crashes lately. Im not sure if this is related to smuggling handweapons, it seems to be on docking with a station though. Anyway, I thought of a neat little idea, how about adding the price you paid for an item in the cargo roster, as an extra column maybe? I also think it would be a cool idea to have some land tanks in this sim, also spicing up some of the missions. Assisting in a land battle on a wartorn planet as a mercenary would be in keeping with the spirit of Elite, at least i think so 🙂

Ive been looking at the lua scripts for the missions, and though im a bit of a novice i would like to have a go at making some missions myself. Is it possible to have a mission deduct a deposit from the player when it is accepted, and to have the cargo item to actually take up cargo space? This would allow for a courier system similar to the one in Eve or OOlite, in which the player has to provide a bond in order to deliver goods for another organisation. Its just an interesting twist on the usual mission types.

Finally, I would like to ask if there are any plans to implement a system to target bases/planets that cannot be aquired visually? In frontier there was a little button in the map browser that allowed you to select a target for autopilot or communication. Its not there in pioneer, and it makes it difficult to plan exactly where you want to go. Thats all for now..cheers 🙂

1st - pioneer is a alpha release, declared as non (fully) playable demo, remember that.

2nd - some spaceports crash the the game, best make a blacklist of them until that is fixed.

3rd - smuggling goods isn't working right in pioneer yet anyways, the goods trader has allways a empty wallet...

4th - groundbattles would go to far i guess, you can't have everything packed in one game, that would exceed the possibilities of the program and your machine, imo.

5th - yes a target selection either in system map or or system info screen would be nice, i'm shure we will see such in a future release.

6th - missions using goods should be possible as long as the commodity is available in the game (one of the existing).

use of cargo space for a parcel should be even possible, as far as i can tell.

check the pioneer-wiki to find out how to script modules.

Thx for the info. As for land battles i wasnt thinking anything more epic than a few static objects like turrets tbh, and ive had no crashes on alpha 5 so thats sorted:)
