To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Any chance of an iPad port of this? The sim looks awesome so it would be great to take it along with me everywhere I go.

Absolutely no chance at all, I'm afraid. The AppStore terms of use and the Gnu General Public License are not compatible. There's already precedent.

It doesn't have to be released on the AppStore. Cydia is an appstore alternative that works just fine and is compatible with the GPL if you jailbreak your ipad (easy to do). No DRM restrictions after that. I have a bunch of open source apps through Cydia and they work great. Heck you don't even need an appstore. With a jailbreak you can just install the app directly.

I would certainly enjoy playing it on the go.

This is why people shouldn't buy Apple products and put their support behind Android 🙂

I don't think I'd stump up for hardware that needed to be cracked before I could use it the way I wanted.

xStatiCa: If you have dev tools and a jailbroken iPad, the source is available to you. It's time to assemble a crack team.

On a more practical note, none of the devs have the required hardware (or aren't talking about it if they do), and aren't pursuing it. If its technically possible then its just a small matter of finding someone to do the work. The boon and bane of open source software, I'm afraid 🙂

That was pretty much my opinion too, but the more I get to grips with Android the less I like it. Google stores a record of literally everything you do and the phone is more locked down than a first impression would give you. So just like IOS you have to crack it and find apps away from the market place. 🙁

A couple of us have thought about an android port but its very unlikely to happen... But if someone wanted to do that we would be willing to help out. All the libraries required for a compile are now available for the Android in some form or another.
