To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hello,
I played Pioneer before and had a lot of fun with it, but to get anywhere I always accelerated until I splatted against or shot by my target, until I found the autopilot. I never managed to get anywhere manually.
Now, I have lately been playing KSP, and there I learnt about orbits, periapsis and apoapsis, and how to reach your destination in a semi-safe manner...
Checking on the Pioneer change logs, I see "Show orbital periapsis/apoapsis in system info with greater accuracy at small distances (#1311, #1303)" under minor changes for Alpha 24. So I thought that maybe Pioneer had a way to show your ship's orbit on the system view. Well, I can't find it. Maybe I am misreading the change log, or I'm looking in the wrong place...
If there are navigation aids, please can someone direct me to them? I really want to manage to move around without autopilot...
Thanks!
"Show orbital periapsis/apoapsis in system info with greater accuracy at small distances (#1311, #1303)" means that the related info was added in the system info screen as numerical values. It might not be confused with the real time drawing of the orbit as navigation aid. It has not been implemented.
Personally I´d like to see that feature coded in a future as it is in Kerbal or in Orbiter and Spaceway, and not only that, but also basic automatic pilots to prograde ship, retrograde ship etc...
If I remember well it has been debated some time, but that was just an idea in a topic that could be possible or not, as I say, maybe in a future.
Greetings!.
Thank you very much for your answer!
I hope too it gets implemented then. It's a great game, and I love cruising through the planets and orbiting around, but as soon as I try to transfer to another body, I just don't manage to get it right, and always end using autopilot.
At the moment I am completely lost with manual navigation...
Pioneer as old Frontier is focused on high speeds, so traditional orbital navigation should have less sense in this game. but there are even videos from Brianetta that demostrates that traditional orbital maneuvers, and manual flight are possible. The needed info is there, not as a circular graphic feature but with numbers.
If I find the video I am speaking about I´ll post it you here.
Greetings!
Prograde and retrograde orientations are already possible in Pioneer. This feature came in Alpha 20.
