To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hey Everyone
Generally I leave developer forums alone, but I do see some off-topic posts in here and I see some threads that are quite large.
I will ask the members that really know the threads here. Is there any useless threads that would be mis-informative to keep? And I was thinking about splitting some of the larger threads down to more manageable page count. You have one in here that is approaching 100pgs and I doubt anyone would read through it all 🙂
So before I use my better judgement to clean the area I just want to ask you what needs to go and I will look over what is left. Also for migration sometimes very large threads pose a problem so I may have to split some topics just in the hopes of migration going as easy as it can.
On the '!! Pioneer Question Time !! - Ask them here ' thread, I think it would be more beneficial to actually just ask the questions in the forums themselves, this way people are not reading old data from a few years ago. As threads age they drop in the page order and that would be a good way to make sure people don't read old data. I would recommend maybe a page like a general FAQ about Pioneer and what are the goals. So least people can ask more informed questions. If someone makes the thread I will sticky for you.
Agreed. "Megathreads" tend to discourage people from making new topics. The "Nightly builds" thread is a possible exception as I usually only post about new stuff that's appearing in the nightly builds, so its on-topic but possibly too trivial for me to bother making a new thread. But ultimately this is your forum, and I'll do it however you think is best!
Nah, its the communities forums I just happen to over see them 🙂 I like a hands off approach usually but when I do see threads that get very large I just look at it as you do as intimidating for new users. There is no sense in me working on the permissions and groups for specific members but once the new software is in place I will give specific users (mainly developers) mod privileges over their specific areas so they will least be able to lock threads, delete and sticky.
I would blatantly delete a thread I might cut it down to size and show maybe the last 6mos or break it into parts. But you are right mega-threads deter from users for seeking information.
if we have a troll it must be me 😆 we nearly became a couple, It and the troll, both children of the forest.
short list of threads started by me, which can be easy deleted

this one could be moved if possible to a general discussion, i wouldn't mind
and this one is really a mega thread, perhaps it should be started new, could be deleted
further i guess it will be fine to remove all older then one year from now on, but maybe other members won't feel comfortable with that?
don't mind about my old model scripting thread, i have plans to reopen that.
I'd really hate to lose the threads with tutorials because I still make use of them. I know the info tends to be spread out through seemingly unrelated threads. It would be nice if it could be consolidated somehow.
since you rember them still, you could make a listing of the posts or threads.
personally, i didn't find my old model scripting thread, or i havent the patience to do so.
but i know from far, it really needs to be overhauled.
edit:
don't fear, they are not in the list, but ok, i will lookout for them and see if i can combine them in a new thread.
You can happily weed-out all that fluff in the Pioneer Musical Appreciation Society thread... heh!
I would have to agree, it started off as quite a nice thread I made a few contributions myself, but now it looks like a mini youtube library, no offence but it's got a bit too large... 😉
well i guess i don't mind to much, about the size on the "pioneer musical apreciation" thread.
because, unlike a informative thread, it's pure entertainment and it's fine to chack only the latest posts, you won't miss anything really important, especially in context with the game.
i can clearly see it should be at least moved from here, while on the other hand i would miss it if it's gone.
but due to the fact that it's not very important, it could also be started new, it won't matter, it's only entertainment.
like i feel it's ok to remove all i've listed, they contain really only unimportant stuff.
i should start my controversial discussions somewhere else, even if there is the risk that i can't reach those who need to be reached by it.
like all information in the web, everybody even me, picks out only what is of interest for them, so you tend to "eat only your own vomited" always.
perhaps there is a purpose for a (kind) troll everywhere.
I took take of most the posts people suggested to remove or trim down. If you see anything else do let me know.
Thanks, DarkOne!
No problem, I know Pioneer has changed a lot in two years and thought about just removing every post from 2010 since they are probably not even relevant any more because of all the changes since Alpha 2 and 3. Because I also see getting rid of old posts while a game is in development is probably a good thing because people could get the wrong info. Keeping old posts are more for games that have been released and you want to have an archive of everything then.
Want to get the devs and members thoughts on that before I whack stuff.
