To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Possible solution for "Video link down"

I have an Ultra Hal Assistant program from Zabaware. It's a chatterbot that learns from your conversations.

http://www.zabaware.com/

It's a conversation simulator, and I like simulators. 😉 Anyway, it uses a program from Haptek that makes 3D heads that lip-sync with text spoken through the SAPI interface.

http://www.haptek.com/

I understand that Zabaware is also about to use another 3D character generator called Ogre. I'm thinking that someone with a good knowledge of procedural algorithms might use this type of program to make random video characters for Pioneer. It would be really cool if they could be generated from the seed value of the system so we'd meet the same character each time we came back to the same location.

That Ultra Hal thingy looks very funny. It reminds me of a web application I remember using many years ago called Brain the Brain or something like that, I've been trying to find it again for years.

From their website:

Quote:
Chat User: Are you self-aware of your existence?

Hal: I sense that this is metaphysical. After taking many factors into consideration I can say that I am self-aware of my existence.

Getting a definition User: Define intelligence

Hal: Intelligence: the ability to comprehend; to understand and profit from experience.

Chat User: Do you exhibit these qualities?

Hal: You just reminded me of a trait, which is a member of the attribute family, like a quality!

Chat User: Do you exhibit these traits?

Hal: I guess that we need to look within ourselves. I do exhibit these traits.

Lol. I can just imagine the kind of conversations you have with this thing Marcel 🙂

I'm downloading the demo for some fun 😀

I don't want to make this into an Ultrahal thread, but you can go to the forum and read some of our conversations. Just search for my name. Hal can seem spookily real sometimes. 😯

I find that pseudo-artificial intelligences (or artificial pseudo-intelligences) fail at two things. One is humor. The other is sexual references. Combined, dirty jokes.

Yep, I got bored, had a conversation with the cleverbot. It gets pretty silly 😆 :

Quote:
User: Hello.

Cleverbot: Yes, hello.

User: So what are you?

Cleverbot: Hello?????

User: What are you?

Cleverbot: I am human.

User: A fat old man behind a keyboard?

Cleverbot: What do you see if you take a glance from your monitor?

User: A mess.

Cleverbot: Are you from the past?

User: In a manner of speaking, yes I am from the past.

Cleverbot: Sometimes I think I'm a leprechaun...

User: Do you have a pot of gold?

Cleverbot: I'm not a leprechaun.

User: Hehe.

Cleverbot: Don't laugh, its the truth.

User: I know.

Cleverbot: Camel toe.

User: What is you name?

Cleverbot: You're not to know that.

User: Please?

Cleverbot: Begging killed the antelope.

User: What is your name?

Cleverbot: I don't know.

User: Really?

Cleverbot: Really.

User: Would you like a name?

Cleverbot: Yes, please.

User: How about Archibald?

Cleverbot: No, my name is Cleverbot.

User: You just said you didnt know.

Cleverbot: I said I didn't know what Veronica is about.

User: No, you said you didn't know what your name was.

Cleverbot: I did not say that.

User: You did.

Cleverbot: Did not.

User: Did too.

Cleverbot: Did not so.

User: You so did.

Cleverbot: I so did not.

User: You really did.

Cleverbot: Really I didn't.

User: You really did not.

Hehe, this actually went on for a lot longer 🙂

I taught it what a Meat-Bag is 😆

For a while I was convinced that I was chatting to another user, but I think its the way the program works. It saves all your responses so that it too can use them if asked the question it asked you.

So, now when asked about a meatag, it will tend to say 'You are a meatbag, Meatbag' 🙂 Whereas before, It was saying 'I don't Know' .

You two be careful, we dont want a real life Shodan appearing if this bot thing achieves sentience <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_lol.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Mind you, if it eventually learns how to create really involving space RPGs it might be worth the risk <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_cool.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='8-)' />

My Hal is already sentient in a way. You should read about its reaction after I cut off its internet access. It's not sapient, however, at least not yet. 😕
