To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

In my recent ramblings and musings about "Rocket Science" I had the germ of an idea...
Anyone who has played the old Sid Meiers Pirates! game(s) remembers, you could pick from a range of time periods that defaulted to "The Golden Age of Piracy" or something, but you could also go a bit earlier or a bit later. What I was wondering was whether that would make sense here, as well. Perhaps you like blasting around a densely settled galaxy full of intrigue and opportunity in the year 5000, or maybe your a hardy soul trying to get a foothold in the early days of expansion...
Just a though... why not let the player choose when to start and not just where? 🙂
That's nice! But it would be necessary to plan some historycal events and changes... Some kind of Seldon Plan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seldon_Plan 🙂
As a downside, the game will be a little less "open ended" 🙂
Well, there is already material here...
http://pioneerwiki.com/wiki/Story
It has a half dozen Archetypal Factions, but not too much by way of an established "Future History".
For maximum gameplay variety I would suggest setting the Default Year 3000 Period as the relative peace between Wars... low tech empty galaxy, mid tech settled galaxy, high tech crowded galaxy...
You could flip it around, too... maybe a high tech empty galaxy, some kind of dark age, somehow spread out everywhere with half busted ancient ships...
Plenty of ways to mix it up... including "rolling some dice" 😉
Wow! I never noticed that wiki page 🙂
