To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

The atmosphere on the gas giants is still too compressed, MUCH better than it has been in the past... and while the whole "threading the needle" aspect of hitting atmo at JUST the right speed and angle is one of the things I love best about Pioneer... only having a few vertical kilometers between vacuum and "ground" just isn't enough. I tried doing some aerobraking flights around Saturn at a "modest" 100 kps and haven't been able to pull it off properly, the flight controls don't have the precision and the strip of atmosphere is just too small... that and I'm just not THAT good a pilot 😉

I think that, after all the photos I took, I yet didn't give to my beautiful Wave the attention it deserves.

So, after landing at Meyer Starport on Tseng's Misery (Gliese 873 -1, -2, 1 ... not a very interesting place ...), I decided to wander around the platforms and make some pictures of my beautiful spaceship. :prankster:

EDIT: In my previous post I forgot to hide the ID of my ship. Fixed. 😆

I went blind :O

The first four planets of Iota Pegasi have a very thick atmosphere. Iota Pegasi B was the most extreme. With very high pressure (~80 atm). In the first minutes of the descent, everything was almost completely white. 😎

Quick question... how do I take fullscreen screenshots in 201306.21 linux32? I tried hitting the screenshot button (works in windowed mode, part of Ubuntu) but neither it nor crtl-prtscr  works in fullscreen (or I just can;t find the pics...). Help?

It's down as ctrl+prtscn or ctrl+multiply (aka * on the numpad) but I don't think there's any errors or warnings if it fails to save. Not sure why it would work with one but fail in another mode though.

Ctrl+PrtScr works for me. The pictures are saved in home/.pioneer/screenshots/. You have to enable 'Show hidden and backup files' in the Files-Preferences tab to see the folder.

This. 🙂

To be more comfortable, I deleted the ~/.pioneer/screenshots directory and made it a symlink to ~/images/pioneer-screenshots 😉

When posting, click on the "more reply options" button. It will bring you to a more complete editor where you can attach your images. 🙂

I liked that picture with the back of the station 🙂

Depending on how the collision system works I was either pushing this bit of metal ore around with my ship (cargo hold was full) or pushing my ship around with this bit of metal ore 😀

Off topic, but I still wonder about using some spiky terrain like this to represent larger cities or Trantor / Coruscant style worlds...

No, there's much better ways 🙂

The city code just needs... well, a lot of work.

A planet generator that creates city planets? That could be nice! 😉

About cities, I had a thought. Why not generate them combining some basic blocks, like the ships of Limit Theory? In this way, we would have much variety.

CityDiscussion,

Best to move this to another thread, also do a search of the forums.

Over the last few years we've discussed it in quite some depth.
