To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

After a crash landing, a father and son explore a planet that was evacuated by humans 1,000 years earlier.
I saw the trailer for a while now and I'm really looking forward for the movie to come out .... but I didn't know the story is set at least 1000 years into the future. That's a bit over the top. I mean I like to believe that in 1.000 years from now we'll have wayyyyyyyy more advanced tech than the one shown in this movie.
Trailer looks good and its nice to see Will Smith in something new.
I haven't visited the site for the movie, but is the people in this supposed to be human and they abandoned earth and then came back 1000 yrs later? If so then yes we should have some kick ass tech, if not then what they are using is fine imo.
Smith and son, the concept great but I would have preferred Smith senoir in the lead rather than junior.
I would agree too, dad just trying to set his sons career up... he didn't so bad in Karate Kid remake.
Hey, we are now approaching the release date (5 june)
After watching this second trailer I am more excited about this one..
Noted that the intro music was from Deus Ex HR. Looks quite good!
Well its not doing well in the theaters I see: http://www.deadline.com/2013/06/first-box-office-after-earth-underperforming-now-you-see-me-on-track-fast-furious-6-still-holding-1-hangover-iii-lagging-star-trek-into-darkness/
I think I know why..... M.Night Shyamalan directed it! OMG this guy CANNOT make movies but for some odd reason people keep paying him to ruin good movie concepts. Well scratch seeing it in the theater, this will be a rental now. If I would have known he directed it my thoughts would have been different.
Hmm, I have no idea who that guy is as I usually don't know who directed a movie or who produced it and stuff like that. I don't really care about that sort of things, I'm only interested in how the movies themselves are, so I'll still wait to see it at the cinema.
Ok, I just came from the movie and i've got to say that I enjoyed the movie. It's not as action oriented as I believed it would be but overall it is a good flick worth the time it takes to watch.
The vibe I got from the rest of the crowd is that they found it boring but I'm guessing that most of the people that were there are fans of movies like Fast & Furious so I have no idea why they even came to watch this movie, probably because they didn't have anything better to do I guess. Either way, I for one really liked it. The movie shows some of the kid's memories from when he was younger, which explain some of his actions during the mission and that way you (as the viewer) also get to appreciate a bit more the soldier he becomes by the end of it.
Will Smith really took his part seriously and played well, that of a general struggling between either the role of a commander or a father for the kid during the mission.
I don't know why this movie got such bad reviews because I only felt there were few things that felt "out of place", however the one that really bugged me is the "technology problem" as I call it. It's exactly the same thing as I "complained" after I watched the trailer a while ago. They have all kinds of super advanced technology however at one point during the movie you'll see a wounded soldier that's missing a leg after an enemy attack and he's going on about his business with the missing leg ..... come on, you are 1000 years into the future and you still can't replace a leg or at least build a robotic one, seriously now. And there are a few more tech problems along the way that don't really make sense but you'll only notice them if you're into this kind of details.
Another issue that I see is with the aliens who are hunting the humans based on their fear pheromones which in turn fight them in face to face combat. Again, they have such advanced tech yet instead of building automated drones to fight the aliens, or at least using some kind of mech suits for protection, they are fighting with the big-bad-huge aliens face to face. Hmm, a bit of a stretch, but ok, it's just a detail and to be fair the aliens hardly have any major role in the movie's action so I'll let this one pass.
All in all, the movie is good enough but do not expect it to be as good as the latest Star Trek movie, not even close, light years away. If you've got some spare time I recommend you go watch it with your friends (if they're sci fi fans, or else you better watch it alone cause they'll get bored and start chatting and ruin your mood).
See you.
