To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

The Stargate franchises seem to be the only thing on TV that anywhere close to a traditional Sci-Fi show. Stargate: Atlantis has just finished and is to move to DVD movies much like Stargate: SG-1 has.
Anyway the latest franchise is Stargate: Universe coming later this year.
Plot:
A team of scientists and civilians are working at an off-world base on the mysteries of the Ninth Chevron located on the Stargate. They are attacked and forced to leave via the gate and dial the ninth chevron. They end up on an Ancient built Spaceship called 'Destiny'. They don't have the ability to get back to earth as this ship is on a pre-determined course. Its following another ship sent eons earlier by the Ancients which has seeded various galaxies with Stargates. They can't stop the ship so any offworld trips are time critical or they'll be stranded.
It all sounds like a cross between Stargate+Space 1999+Star Trek Voyager. Main star of the show is Robert Carlyle of James Bond, Trainspotting and 28 Weeks Later fame among others. :geek:
The more I hear about it the more excited by it I get. I think it may the next big Sci-Fi show. I've enjoyed the other two series in the Stargate franchise so this one could be just as good. 🙂

I wish I had gotten more into the SG series more. Just so many episodes between the new series that why bother. Maybe with this new show I can start over. I take it Sci-Fi channel will be the one hosting the tv series?
In the US its on the Sci-Fi channel. In the UK I expect it to be picked up by Sky TV as they've shown all the other Stargate series. 😀
Stargate I like to.
From the Kurt russel movie.
To the pilot and SG1 series.
SGA to and now SGU.
The movies 'The ark of truth' and 'Continium'
If you like SG1 and SGA
SGU is realy different.
Or you like this refreshing direction the took off with. Or it's just not your kind of stargate.
The prefious are Aktion hero exploring humor scifi.
SGU is
survival drama charbuilding soap with some scifi and a bitty aktion and humor.
Reminds me on the good but depressing BSG remake series
My fav chars are
Destiny
Greer
Eli
Cloe
Also lookin out for CME TPS game Stargate Resistance

BSG,
BSG,
I agreed with most of your assessment Bouitaz, but BSG I don't think was a bad series. I haven't been able to watch the whole thing, watched up until mid season 2 and I liked it. Just missed a few episodes and stopped watching when I thought I missed to many.
What didn't you like about it?
Wait... which version of Battle Star Galactica are we talking about?
The original attempt to ride on Star Trek's (TOS) coattails? With Lorne Greene... like "Space Bonanza"?
Or the recent one with two different (female) Boomers falling in love with two different guys?
I'll agree that the original was pretty lame. But the recent version of BSG is one of the better non-Roddenberry sci fi shows, IMHO.
As for Stargate Universe, I think it is pretty cool. I like the idea of going outside the galaxy, and I love the way the ship refuels itself. It seems off to a slow start... there is a lot of character development for vaguely-defined characters. But some of the fundamental ideas are excellent. I am really looking forward to seeing what Dr. Rush (Robert Carlyle) will do with that busted alien ship he was marooned with...
Just to clarify, I am talking about the remake, the new BSG.
(Haven't seen the old one yet, but if it is anything like the new one, fat chance.)
What I don't like about it, is the same thing I don't like about SG-INO, the religion and soap-opera..
That's it, basically.
Yah BSG is realy deep on drama character building realtion ships. Some real acting. SG Universe is lot similar to that. That great if that your thing. But a disaster if your more into SG1 Firefly Voyager Atlantis like Drama free or in very light dosis. More action humor focust.
I realy think that they where realy serious wenn they say they aim more for drama like BSG and lost and doing slow soapie story telling and extreem character building. They are realy full of it. I find it full of crap. Altho they give you false hope that there will be a dosis of stargate humor. Well it is there barely. BSG is more Extreem on drama. So I put SGU above BSG. BSG is realy dark scifi.
I have the BSG boxes somewhere between the drama crap there is a scifi show. My Ps3 has a nice FFW so do I with SGU. And then it gets a lot better.
My favo SGU ep. from first 10 eps is nr 5 the star dipping thing.
The worst ep would be with the lesbian IOA backstory.
While Sg1 and atlantis pace was to fast and to much cramped into 43min. SGU is way to slow.
Because it's the only fresh new scifi ship based tV show I keep watching it.
A very well balanced stargate show would be a mix of SG1 and SGU
SGU suffers from trying too hard to be like BSG. The dark corridors, the constant tension...sometimes the conflict generation between the cast can be a little too obvious and unrealistic. But all in all I like the show and think it's a worthy addition to the SG canon.
While not every episode aired so far is a winner I adored the [first] plunge into the sun to refuel (and the prior atmosphere-braking around the gas giant) and really liked the time-travel episode too, where they all get gored multiple times by those lethal critters.
Oh, and Col. Telford deserved his eventual beating more than any other on-screen character this year. 😀
It's still a young series, though. Still finding its feet. I'm eager to see how the rest of the season develops, now that a second year of episodes has been confirmed.
