To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Been watching this shows development for a while and with FOX most recently cancelling a few of it's shows they are probably putting a lot of hope around Terra Nova's success. I have read that the first episode cost roughly 16mil so it seems like it have a nice budget.

Looks interesting

Reminds me Flesh from 2000AD where people from the 32 century go back in time to farm dinosaur to feed hungry humans in the future.

I have seen it and I have to say that I am not impressed.

A lot of money went to this project but as usual the part that went for plotting and general screen playing was not enough.

When they will learn that we want to see a story and not just a bunch of nice special effects?

Still there are some tenuous hope for the future, a few story lines have been put in motion and I like the main character.

I will see the next few episodes but for now I'm not sure that I will be able to stand a full season.

The only thing that goes well for them is the dearth of SciFi on the screen, little and silver.

I personally thought it was a decent beginning to the show. Most TV shows don't get their plots flowing to at least 3-4 episodes in. Just like in Falling Skies it started off slow as well and near the last 3 episodes of this past season it was starting to be quite entertaining. I think Terra Nova has plot to actually be a good hit if they don't get too carried away with side plots and just concentrate on the main story.

I try to support these shows because there really isn't much in the way of good shows on TV. The airways have been taken over by those damn reality shows and comedies it is actually hard to find a good TV show these days. I will watch Terra Nova the whole season as long as they don't get off track too much.

I will not lose my time with the fourth episode of Terra Nova. It is so flat and uninteresting that is almost insulting.

There is a dearth of good storytelling in the little screen (and a desert in the big budget silver screen) that compound with the almost complete absence of SciFi shows.

Mala tempora currunt.

The best Sci (but not Fi) show I ever seen on TV was Numbers, while a by the number 😉 police procedural they manage to pack more real science in one episode than in the full Battlestar Galactica run.

Yesterday I have seen the first episode of a British BBC show 'Hidden'. It is a contemporary conspiracy show, no SciFi and no fantasy but a lot of good story and some nice acting too.

Would have been so expansive to find a good screenwriter for Terra Nova? They exist out there.

P.S. a decent actor or two would also help, look at Castle, the story and overall plot are paper thin but just looking at the faces that 'Mal' does cheers me up for the rest of the week.

I look at Terra Nova and Fallen Skies in the same aspect that they drag their feet a little at getting right to the point about t he whole story but at the same time they try to character build. That is what V's problem was and why it got cancelled they stalled to long in getting the aliens to invade earth... Now for Terra Nova we know that those symbols on the rocks are the commander's supposedly dead son and is probably the whole content of the show (which was only touched on with two sentences in this weeks episode). I will give the show more time because I think it will recover.

Yeah just read about it today, shame because it just started to get going. It is really hard to build a solid story with character development and plot in 6-8 episodes. I think AMC does a great job with Walking Dead in that each season is like 6 episodes and a few months later you get 6 more, The Fringe does the same thing. It's always a sad day when a scifi tv show gets cancelled because it brings down the odds of a scifi show replacing it.

I know, it's unfortunate that scifi TV shows usually take a season to ramp the story and the characters up. Or maybe the audiences out there are just getting dumber and cannot comprehend advanced story lines. I guess I have to revert back to Falling Skies, it's new season is coming and for now it is still coming back.
