To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Was looking at our website analytics and thinking 'where did the traffic from that week come from?' and now I've found it. Thanks for the interest! Hopefully we give you guys something to talk about in the coming months. Happy to answer any questions as well.
Welcome to the forum SpaceBearDev.
I had the impression from the website that the game is more aimed at FPS players rather than the adventure rpg style of game play that some of the similar game are doing or do you intend to have some in the game.
Thanks!
You're right, we're trying to bring in a new way that players interact in space and one of the big things we're doing is focusing on the fps interaction with friends or other live players(or alone if you prefer). So instead of competing with other games on the rpg/space flight combat, we will have things such as boarding someone elses ship where you can fight/rob them in various ways. Whether its shooting out a window behind them to watch them get pulled into space or pulling a fire extinguisher off the wall and beating them to death with it. There will be lots of fun ways to fight other player or ai if you happen to attack an ai transport ship.
However there will still be a large part of the game that involves space flight and space combat since that is how you find things to do in the game and places to explore in space, but there won't be a preset campaign or story line to follow. It should be noted as well there won't be many ships that are small fighters such as the ones you'll find in games like star citizen. Pretty early on players will have access to large ships so that most of the combat will be you flying and shooting while your friends/strangers shoot from other guns on your ship, or control certain systems on your ship.
Nice video of the ship interior 😎
Like the art work style they have used but not so sure about having stair in starship.
New WIP video from GH.
Early video of the FPS part of the game.
Why can you never just shoot the windows out and blow them into space.
It's coming along, not sure if the scale of the ship in the previous video matches the inside dimensions of the interior. Seems like there is a lot of room to run around on the ship, and i thing it would be great to include some destructible areas of the ship from all that gunfire (especially if they are using ballistic ammo).

That is a feature that we just got working properly last night actually and will have its own video soon. You'll need a special gun (each ship will have one of these guns located some where on the map) which fires out a large pulse that rag dolls anyone it hits. It also blows out any nearby windows, and pulls whoever was near those windows out into space.
Once a window is blown out the ship quickly loses oxygen. Therefore players will need to run down to the lower level of the ship to turn on the emergency air generators. This is what we're working on finishing at the moment and I would be happy to hear your thoughts on it.

Good catch, they don't match because they're different ships. The previous video showing the turret features uses an old prototype model that won't make it to the released game. The FPS map is the interior model of a newer ship and that matches the size of the ship quite well because a lower poly model of that exterior was brought into the map and then the interior map was built inside of it. What this means is that when you're boarding the ship from the bridge or getting pulled out into space through a window, you will see the exterior of the ship. Giving the feel that you're on a real ship that has an exterior and fully working interior because , well, you are 🙂
Destructible areas will definitely be added as that's really easy to do in UE4. For example there are already gas tanks placed randomly around the map which will soon be able to explode.
Thanks for the feedback guys!
No problem SpaceBear, only nit-picky comment I have for the interiors is that its too clean, your gonna have to dirty it up a bit or you have a hard ass captain that loves neat ships 🙂
And since recent Star Citizen announced certain FPS features like messing with some ship functions or controls to hamper the boarding party or internal defenses that can be activated on boarding. Plan on doing any that sort of thing? And will there be higher rewards for capturing crew alive or not destroying certain cargo, etc...?

Haha, I would like to have the ship get dirtier dynamically during game play. So at the beginning of the matchs it's nice and then by the end everything is covered in blood and ruined from explosions etc.
Well I'm not sure what Star citizen is planning exactly but it won't be too technical as we just don't have the budget to make everything that complex. There will be things to mess with like oxygen levels and air pressure in regards to getting sucked out of the windows but it will still be good old fast paced fps combat where you're mostly running around killing other players. There won't be a big focus on role playing or hiding in cargo, which I know SC mentioned doing as well.
Video of a walk around the ship with a short teaser of the game play at the end, looks like they got that shoot the window and be blown into space sorted out. 😎
WIP video of fighting drones.
Two comments 1 option to turn the trails off and 2 and a much more meatier gun sound.

Thanks for the post as always 🙂
Some other people mentioned the trails were annoying, especially when flying through asteroids and you have to keep the camera right behind the ship(not shown in video). The problem with turning them off is it's super hard to spot ships in the distance without them. We might turn them off for the pilot but show them for other players. Or just wait until we get first person view working and then players can use that. Also they are placeholder effects, the finished versions will be much less annoying, so that should help as well.
Agree about the sound. Setting up a meeting with the sound designer to improve it this week.
New trailer.
Look like they are getting ready for a Kickstarter as you can sign up for an early invite using Prefundia http://prefundia.com/projects/view/galaxy-heist/782/
Nice test.
Video of some of the Alpha gameplay.
Sound effects sound more meatier :good: still some odd turning on the chase cam when following the player ship.

Can you point out which part in the video/game you're referring to and what you would change? Then we can work on it 🙂

It looks jerky like the chase cam is trying to catch up with the ship when it make any sharp turns at 0:59, 1:16 and 1:51 in the video although looking at it again I would guess the chase cam is an independent view around the ship.
Any plans for a PayPal option at some point SpaceBearDev?.
Right should have posted it here and not in the Interstellar Rift thread.
Good News Everyone! We've been given the ability to develop Galaxy Heist for Xbox One along side PC. If you were only a fan of Galaxy Heist before because you wanted to play it only on PC then this won't effect you at all but now we can reach a whole new audience, which potentially means more sales, which means that additional funding would go right back into the game bring you more features and additions so actually it could effect all of us in a very positive way!
We're now about 3 weeks away from our kickstarter launch which we'll definitely need your support for in order to get the game finished on any platform. In the meantime here is a recent video that we made to show off the most up to date footage of the game.
And the Kickstarter is a go https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/spacebeardev/galaxy-heist?ref=nav_search
£65 grand goal more details on Kickstarter.
Just added this kickstarter to the mainpage. The video shows off a lot and the game has come a longs ways and does have a very reasonable goal so attaining it is very possible. A lot of folks should be interested in this type of title because of the whole bording/on ship combat. Don't see much of that in games much.
Good luck!
Been greenlighted in less than a day.
Great news everyone! Galaxy Heist was greenlit on steam in a day. This day right now to be exact. I had always thought getting on steam greenlight was going to be a task in itself that I would worry about after kickstarter but it ended up not being a task at all. I only got to tweet about it a couple times before it got approved. If I had known I would've really savoured those tweets. Thank you very much to everyone who voted for us, we're one step closer to putting the game in people's hands.
Hope they have PayPal option at some point.
Galaxy Heist still has 18 days to go but they could do with doing a lot more updates.
From Kickstarter updates, they still have 15 days to go but it's a big mountain to climb.
Hey everyone!
Thought I would give an update just to say hi and let you know whats going on behind the scenes with the game and our current KS campaign.
Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we just didn't get the traffic needed in the first few days to take a sizable chunk out of that 65k, even with good conversion rates for the people that did go to our kickstarter page. So it goes without saying, we're not in a good position for finishing the KS campaign like we had originally planned.
Having said that, whether the game gets funded on this go around or not, backers will still receive something for their support. Exactly what that will be I can't say yet as I'm still looking at our options and seeing how things go but I can say that I will keep pushing for this game to get made no matter what happens over the next few weeks.
I plan on doing another update after E3 once the direction of Galaxy Heist is a bit clearer and I can share our plan for the future. With Steam Greenlight, the new xbox version of greenlight(xbox preview?), publishers, angel investors, and other people making offers on the game, Galaxy Heists future is looking bright even sans a miracle kickstarter upswing. So right now the plan is to explore some of our options and come up with a solid game plan over the next week. Even though the campaign isn't going as planned there are still lots of things to be excited for in the Galaxy Heist galaxy.
Thanks for sticking with us!
A lot more updates were needed as updates are the main communication channel you have with your backer it also allows people to see whats going on and to post updates around the internet and that way you should get more attention.
