To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Well the game is finally out of beta today and it will be online shortly after some patching. I personally decided to wait to play this one until it was out of beta so I hope I will be surprised by waiting since beta was about a year for MWO. Anyone have some thoughts on this for those that played the beta and do you think it will be successful long term. Currently the game is F2P with a cash store as normal. I will be interested to see how the store impacts playability and if you can attain high end gear without using it.
Can't wait to give this one a try... http://www.mwomercs.com/landingpad?csi=21_23_21
I played in late Closed Beta and all through Open Beta. Back in closed beta there were four maps, 3 of those now have alternates (two of which are night versions and one frozen version) and PGI has since introduced four additional maps. PGI (Piranha Games Incorporated) had introduced 8 mechs in closed beta and has since added 12 more mechs. During Closed Beta Mech Warrior Online (MWO) had ballistic arches and mech collisions (although somewhat glitchy). These fun features have since been removed from the game and PGI has not stated as to when they will come back. PGI had also said on multiple occasions that Third Person view and Coolant (a cooling device for quickly depleting mech heat) were not going to be added into the game. These have since been added which have angered many of the original founders who spent 30, 60 or 120 US Dollars for Closed Beta Access and generated around 5 Million Dollars.
The good news is that each mech weight class is balanced in such a way that no particular mech is vastly better than other mechs. The break down is (Assault > Heavy > Medium > Light > Assault) which means that the lightest and fastest mechs can kill the slowest and most well armed mech.
Weapons are the same across every mech. So a Medium Laser does 5 damage against an Assault mech and a light mech regardless as to which mech you drive. Unfortunately there is some bad news. PGI recently added Heat Scaling which adds additional heat to your mech if you were to shoot a number of the same weapons at the same time. This causes mechs to gain more heat than they normally would and is not explained to new players in the tutorial. There are also two weapons that are very under powered compared to the rest; they are the Machine Gun and the Flamer.
Mech Warrior Online can be played entirely for free using the in game currency (C-Bills). C-Bills can be used to buy everything from different mechs, any weapon in the game, upgrades and armor.
Over all I am uncertain as to if the game will be successful long term. PGI seems to have shifted its focus from the core BattleTech fans which founded the product, to the more casual gamer. The game has a lot of potential but PGI is no longer making a game for those who offer suggestions on the game's forums.
PS: The email address that you use for this game can not be changed by you or by the PGI staff. Keep this in mind while registering for the game.
