To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Also looking for a "very" old game.

Hey guys, spent over 2 hours looking to no avail and need help from some people who know a lot more about space sims than i do. Its very very old and im not even sure if it was a PC or MS DOS game. I do remember it came in a massive box though and i think i remember a red spinning saw when i booted the game up, the developer logo maybe.

So yea, basically im looking for something i played when i was very young and the best i can do is try explain my fragmented memories of the game.

It featured the player race - humans, being mysteriously attacked by an alien race and then dissapearing again, initially it was only against outlying colonies, but the attacks increased in severity until a military ship was attacked and thats when the game takes place.

Some of the enemy ships are red, in a wide v shape and they could also ram you to deal extra damage - almost insta kill - but you could eventually fly in those ships too, so i dont think they were the mysterious aliens that attacked.

The game started off with you being a new recruit, on a space station. You could talk to a few people around the station, such as the hanger you start off in, a mess area and then later on you set out on a training mission to determin your worth and rank.

You then get sent to a larger ship, some form of carrier. From this point onwards you fight the aliens and defend the carrier. You deploy from the ship in a squad, kill the enemies and then return to the carrier. You eventually rise in the ranks and become the leader of the squad.

Thats about all i remember of the game, it was a very long time ago i played it and for the ife of me i cant remeber any more info.

Any help is so greatly appreciated. Ive wanted to revisit the game for the longest time now 🙂

Sound a lot like one of the Wing Commander game maybe WC2 or WC4 although it could be any game from that period as variation on the basic story were used by most of them, (and they still using it today) which is the long way of saying I don't know. 😆

Was it 3D or 2D?.

No it doesnt seem to be any of the wing commander games, the ships, intro and game start dont seem familiar (though i do think im going to check out some other similar games now that im looking at them :)) The primary aspect that i think seperates it from other games in this vein was talking to other crew members on the station/ship between missions.

It was indeed 3d, or at least i remember flying around in a 3d space.

Not really it was a pretty common feature for space combat and trader games from the 90s onwards have look at this list on Wikipedia  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_space_flight_simulator_games
