To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

DId anyone else get the NSIS Installer Integrity error?
It sounds like your download did not completed successfully for a reason or another. In case it's our host being the issue, there's a download link available at indieDB.
Could someone be a dear and install my new version before i officially release it ?
It seems to work okay as long as Windows' themes are enabled (yes, still). But beta 1 did too and some people couldn't make it run.

Thanks
It seemed to install ok and play (nice impovements from the last time I played btw). Only thing that I saw was during the start a new game phase and it loading its assets the window went non responsive three times, but the game eventually loaded ok. Took about 1min or so to load.
Just a quick feedback point, for those people that hate reading docs about games... would be nice to have some small tooltips on the icons so you know what they do (espeically those ones that show up in the bottom right/left side of the screen.
I have to say the windowed mode seems to work better now than before.
Unending Galaxy [Beta 2: Yaar! Edition] Released
A combat focused update with new ship physics, new missions, weapons, a pirate guild, a bounty board and many other stuff.
- Release Post
- Download Link
- display / performance issues ? you can try this
@DarkOne:
Depending on when you downloaded the thing, you may or may not have the latest version. I published it 2 hours ago or so (the latest has 2 executable files)
Main UI tooltips are available. They don't close very well if there's a menu open, though. (fixed now, but a bit too late)
Game Controls and Settings > Show Help Tooltips.
(don't use bloom filter/shader)
1.0 should also have a small tutorial and more context help, but there's a limit to what the UI can teach. It's a fairly large simulation and figuring out how the systems are working together is also part of the challenge.
Is it just me or the forum editor is completely broken ?
Anyway,
Beta 3 released !
This is a fairly major release with a big performance boost and a load of bug fixes. It's mostly focused on trading with the addition of the new automated system trader (a fire & forget order that will make one of your ship buy low and sell high in a given solar system). There's also semi random global events (good or bad). Swarm lifeforms become a real threat too. For more details, refer to the release post.
The game can be downloaded for free on my website. You can also buy the deluxe edition at itch.io (5 bucks), it contains a 1000 sector large (!) hand-crafted map, the game editors and 4 additional starting scenarios.
Cheers,
SK.
Congrats on Beta 3. Getting closer to that gold release and reading over that release post and you have indeed been busy with all of these enhancements and features added (specially the sector ownership and trading), nice job! Do you know if your close to getting t he game on Steam or any other digital download service?
Is it just me or the forum editor is completely broken ?
Hmm what do you mean by this? Are you editing a existing post or creating a new one? I edit and create posts almost everyday I haven't seen anything acting up..... but I am the admin so it seems like everything always works for me 🙂 heh
re: game
Thanks ! Well, in addition to itch.io, I plan on releasing the 1.0 on Desura and Steam Greenlight. No idea if it will be green-lighted but that's a hell lot of exposure nonetheless 🙂
re: forum
It's working properly now, no idea what happened.
Got an error when saving an edit (undefined error), the link to the full editor wasn't working. Also no proper editor menu with the nice icons.
As I was uploading files left and right at the same time, the page's scripts may have timed out

Building a popularity base on Desura/IndieDB sure helps a lot with getting ready to get greenlighted 🙂 I'd gladly pay 15$ or so for the full game once done 🙂 Possibly even a bit more. Im inclinded to say more, but you know some people may complain about that 😛
Well,
I can't really talk about pricing on Desura and Steam yet. I have to see how much is going to be eaten by taxes, currency conversion and their rate exactly first. It's likely to be a bit higher than on itch.io. In any case, it will be less than 15 bucks.
However, people can already buy the game for anything starting at 5$ at itch.io. As per the store's policy, if you think the game deserve it, you can choose to pay more (people tend to do that so far). It will give a key that will work for any future version. Once the game is finished, the price will ramp up to around 10 bucks.
Yes, I am trying this crazy business model where a beta product (hence, unfinished and buggy) actually costs less than a full featured one
Cheers,
SK.
Minecraft did the same basically. But nowadays on early access many games cost more on early access than when fully released x) Planetary Annihilation is a classic example of that.
Beta 4.1 has been released
As usual, the release post is on my website, but here are the main points:
- Improved individual combat AI (better flying patterns and turret tracking)
- Reworked economic system (trade stations rewrite, dynamic pricing, factories' production and needs rebalance)
- Many user interface tweaks and improvements
- Multiple bug fixes (42) and general stability improvement
Lots of the improvements are a direct result of the input from the topic on the dwarf fortress board.
This is likely to be the last major Beta before the 1.0 release.
Cheers,
SK.
