To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Howdy. Uh... How are you guys doin'?
I'm a bit of an old timer, video game wise, cut my teeth on Elite on the BBC micro and on the C64 (which I personaly think was the best version at the time because of the addition of great sound and tribbles!). I then thoroughly enjoyed Frontier on the CD32 with the lovely CD soundtrack and great interface (along with the awsome bug allowing you to install the largest engine in the game into an Eagle MKIII fighter and jump half way across the galaxy in a single hop.) Next port of call was the X universe, until arriving here, waiting to see how the new embodiments of my favorite games shape up.
oh and also i'd fill the void between space trade/combat sims I've enjoyed playing the multitude of Aliens and Predator games and just about anything else similar...Oh and I'm also an Elder Scrolls addict (and Fallout 3 nut too)
looking forward to see what comes from Elite Dangerous (all the footage looks totaly dreamy), and a stable version of X Rebirth would be nice too (I do love the concept of being able to roam the stations on foot.)
to PINBACK, love the avatar and "The planet just exploded sir ... lutenant"
Welcome to the forums Techn0grm3r
Same here with Elite (Amstrad version) which had 4 special missions two more than the C64  then on with Wing Commander and Frontiers on the Amiga 1200.
E:D looks great but it will be a long time before I can play it but their are plenty of other games out there, never been a fan of the X series but I really have been enjoying X-Rebirth, still amazed by the size of the station in the game.
And more games should have Thermostellar Triggering Devices IMO. :haha:
Brilliant, never got to see the Amstrad version, it was all C64s or the old rubber keys of doom where I grew up,
I can't believe I forgot about Wing Commander especially as I'm one of those sad nerds that actualy liked the movie,
I played them up to privateer and then got side tracked with x-wing and others.
I do think games suffer from not having to talk an AI into NOT doing something stupid like blowing up, although I do
remember having to do that in the unorthodox engineers, a real old text adventure game with a sci-fi storyline.
Another old timer, :pilot: like us. F.o.F.T. and Amiga Elite (with cheat to get Docking Computers   ). Welcome aboard Techn0gam3r. :fans:

I always like the submarine in space feel that the film has and the awesome Kilrath designs much better than the honey monster ones from the FMV games.also has a great supporting cast but unfortunately the two leads were miss cast for Blair and Maniac.

A new X-Rebirth mini game.
Welcome to SSC - from an old BBC Elite veteran.
Sometimes I wish we would have advanced past the C64 and Amiga days, seemed that the gaming experiences were much more creative. Welcome to SSC Techn0Gam3r
Hey welcome and yes, I too am new here but a veteran of the genre and the space game communities. I was mostly into the WC series and I-War games, as well as Freespace games. Loved them. I am older and grey-er now, with family and business, etc., but I hope to be able drop by, chat, play some great games, review a few and check out all the exciting new stuff that seems to be coming out after a long time of no space game love at all. Its an exciting time for those who enjoy this genre.
