To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hi, I'm Ronin. I'm one of the developers of YASS url] http://www.yass-engine.de [/url.

First of all, a very nice idea with this space sim portal, kudos! I did not have a deeper look at everything here, but I definitly will when I have the time.

So, keep it up and I'm looking forward to some interesting space sim discussions going on... 😉

Hey Ronin

Thanks for the praise. Lot of games and mods out there to keep people busy and eventually I will get to them all. I have YASS on my machine and I will play around with it more when I get a chance. I know I was having trouble maneuvering the ship on the ground and in space. I will giving it another go soon. Trying to finish some small site updates. But always feel free to post your project status 🙂

Hi Solnicaris,

thanks, we started development with 2 programmers in early 2004 besides our studies in computer science. We finished studies in the meantime and thus we don't have that much time now for programming, but we still are motivated and don't plan to abandon this hobby anytime soon. Additionally a graphics artist joined our team some time ago and he makes sure that YASS no longer looks just like programmers art. 😉

5 years seems to be a long time for what YASS looks like at present, but when we started back then we were absolute programming starters and YASS teached us programming almost better then the studies... 🙂 Hence we wrote nearly every aspect of the game multiple times, some more than 5 times. For example I am just completely rewriting the network code from scratch at the moment. But by now we have a pretty good foundation for implementing "real gameplay", so certainly there will be some interesting features added to YASS in the near future.

With the engine we can now simulate distances of several lightyears with millimeter precision, so the sun you see from mercury orbit is actually the same object as from neptune orbit and space is just one huge level.

We'll see where development will take us in the future... 🙂
