To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hi there,

Thought I'd introduce myself, and talk about my experiences and hopes with space sims, some of my favourites have been Edge of Chaos: Independence War 2, the Escape Velocity series, and Space Rangers 2.

I'm still searching for my perfect game, an open world spacesim where you can fight trade etc. in your ship but also get up and walk around space stations or ships, maybe even planets. Sort of like the Battlecruiser games but good, or an updated Sundog. I have heard that the first Parkan is sort of like this but haven't managed to track down an English copy yet, (I see it's in the download section here but the downloads never complete).

Maybe X:Rebirth will be what I'm after, I have all the X games but they are good but not great IMHO.

Other games I'm interested in at the moment are FTL, and Starfarer (It's pretty fun at the moment and have high hopes for the campaign). I also need to get round to checking out Starshatter and Salvation Prophecy some day.

As for myself I've been gaming since the day of my old ZX spectrum, I'm from the UK but live in NZ.

Nice to find this community, I've been lurking around for a bit but thought I'd say hi.

Hi Parrafin, you mention some great games there in IWAR2. I haven't played FTL yet or Starfarer but you will probably like Salvation Prophecy. It doesn't have free open world trade, it is more of a faction based war strategy game with FPS/Space combat.

Hi Parrafin

Welcome to the SSC. Darkone is looking into the problem of downloads quitting. I have a similar problem myself, but that might be down to my rubbish ISP. As for a game, there are quite a few projects in the works you can check out on the forum that may meet your needs. <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Me too, welcome to the forums Parrafin.

Closest game I have come across so far to the above is Precursors, lot of bug also unfinished but it show what cold be done.

There a remake of Sundog, hopeful it will be out soon.

Thanks for the welcome guys, yeah have seen a bit around about precursors but avoided it because it's apparently so buggy, maybe I should add that to 'the list' (of games I should really get round to playing someday).

I keep getting distracted by other things, like Dwarf Fortress or 'just quickly' checking out how Baldur's Gate II mods are looking these days and emerging 4 days later thinking hmm what was I about to do, and how come I haven't got any work done this week. I did look at a rouge-like called prospector I found mention of on the forums here, it seems pretty cool but need to try it a bit more with my usb numpad as it sucks navigating on my laptop without one. In fact I might do that now, but it's a hot spring day here and I should be finishing cutting the grass (Part of my job is maintenance man at a camp).

About the downloads I guess my ISP might be a part of the problem too, or the fact that I'm in New Zealand (probably a long way from the server) it wouldn't be a problem if I could use a download manager on the links so I could resume the downloads, or if the files were split up, but I must have tried 4 or 5 times and once got as much as 129Mb out of 134, ah well maybe it will get sorted, if not nevermind, searching for an English version of Parkan was what brought me here but there are plenty of other shiny things to look at.
