To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Lately I have been in a space sim playing mode, from playing demo's of Mars Colony to replaying Universal Combat again.

Recently I found this website and I have to say its taken me down memory lane. It also opened my eyes to titles I never tried and to my shock, some I hadnt heard of before. I grew up with elite and down the road have dabbled here and there. Honestly I was never into them for the combat as the exploration and other aspects. I did love the X series but even that wasnt as fun when you started going to larger ships that still played like fighters. I am eagerly awaiting thier new space adventure this month and hope it will be a bit more. Universal Combat is a buggy non streamlined game but so far its as close to a sim that I like.

Its hard to believe in my 30+ yrs of gaming that the main thing that has improved is graphics. No better features really just some tweaks here and there. I watched a vid of a old atari game sundog I think it was, why cant we see a modern version of this where you have a interior, have damage that you can manually fix and visit planets and have space adventure? Or games like mega traveller?

Anyways sorry for rant on greeting post but its who I am so figured.would share. 🙂 And loving this site altho I got hot and cold for space games.

Welcome to SSC Lochar

And your not ranting I think your spot on. When you do think about it nothing really has changed since my C64 and Amiga playing days in the area of functionality. But the graphics have sure gotten better. I think that is what we need is a nice adventure game that lets you do it all 🙂

And please do excuse the rebuilding of the site, I will get it up to speed soon enough and on the wiki there is some pages that tries to have the majority of the games listed by type of game (ie: SP/MP, MMO, Web, Mobile) so there is more info out there.

Hi Lochar

Welcome to the SSC 🙂

Yes great points you made there. It's high time we had the "next gen" space sim and Sundog would be a good base to start from. A kind of "marriage" between GTA and Frontier would be nice 😉

It's funny you say that because I often wondered what Rockstar could do for space like they did for the GTA series and Red Dead Redemption. Hell at this point I would settle for Sims 3 in space where you could build your ships, bases, etc. I dont even need a huge system, just long as I feel like its space.

But thanks both for invite, I will be trolling the site for awhile or until I hit my cold mode again. 😀
