To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hi,
I can't believe I didn't find this site before, looks awesome. Going to spend some time checking out all the games here
I'm an indie developer and have spent almost all of the past year developing a business sim set in space for android. I assume it would be better to post details in a separate thread in the relevant forum?
Other than that, I'm a big fan of sci-fi in general, though I don't get round to reading or watching as many films as I'd like. I also like travel and current affairs and metal and trance music and also tennis and football (soccer)
Space games wise, I played Eve Online for like 5 years (my in-game name is Spoon Thumb (and in fact is for any online game) (ex CVA), though I'm currently not subbed). I also really liked homeworld and a space strategy game called pax imperia from back in the day
Hi James
Welcome to the SSC 🙂
And yes please do give us details on your Space Sim for the Android. We love to hear of new games on here and devs are especially welcome. Be ready to answer questions though as we are an inquisitive bunch on here! 😆
There is a section in the SSC just for Mobile and Tablet games, so put your info in there.
Darkone and Pinback (the site Admin & Moderator respectfully), will be along shortly I am sure 😉
Thanks for the compliments James.
SSC is for the fans of these great games and the more developer and fan interaction we can get the better for the hopes of making the best games possible. So i'm glad you picked up our radar signature in the vastness of space, but now that you are here you can stay as long as you want (just remember to shower of course... 😆 ).
Congrats on the game and I hope to buy a tablet myself sometime this year if the budget permits. The new Ipad looks nice but I have had my eyes set on the Asus Transformer Prime. I just have to see what is available when I have the money together. I have been reading some comments on various blogs that Android developers are starting to drop off because they are getting tired of supporting multiple OS version for their games/apps. Do you find that will be an issue and will your game support the various Android platforms?
Android has a reputation of not being profitable for developers. Or rather, iOS is far more likely to give a return on investment than android, so most developers start with iOS and then port across to android if the game is profitable. Android's lack of single, unified payment system plus the different demographics of the android system (people buy android phones because they are too cheap to buy an ipad/iphone), makes it an uphill struggle for developers to make paying easy for customers. Whilst it's hard to pay, it is easy to pirate on android.
Finally, it is so easy for developers to get something onto the android market that you just can't expect people to just randomly come across it. The market is flooded with (free!) games and apps. In fact you can't really do that with iOS either, but a lot of developers are still stuck in the mode of producing small, simple, cutsie games, which is cool, but unless you win the app store equivelant of the lottery, isn't going to get you any traction. That's what concerns me as an android developer
I'm developing for such an ancient version of android (2.1) that something like 99% of android devices support it. (In theory at least, they are all backwards compatible). With different devices, you just have to draw the line somewhere and be upfront about how the game/app simply isn't designed for screens smaller than x by y. Equally developers have to be inventive as to how to manage UI elements and data on screen. My game is designed for medium to large phones, but looks padded / sparse on tablets, so almost certainly, I will redesign the UI and make a HD version for tablets, that will include all the extras like animated buttons and cool transitions that lower spec phones struggle with
I got a Kindle Fire (only available in the US at the moment), and that keeps me happy tablet wise, even if it is significantly smaller than the Asus tablets, not to mention a lot cheaper than an ipad ( only $200! Buy yours today *cheesy salesman grin*). I would recommend iphones and ipads to anyone who is happy to pay extra for something that just works, and works well, and requires no messing around. If you're the sort of person who actually knows what a computer looks like under the case, get an android
Welcome to SSC mate.

Thanks for all the welcomes also! Just checked out SolCommand's models. Some pretty sweet stuff in there, though I can't really make use of them as they are too high poly count (my graphics programming skills plus limited power of mobile devices doesn't mix so well in my graphics engine 😳 )
