To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hello everyone!
This is Marcin, from GBM Productions. Making Space Command One. There are some exciting developments on that front, but thats for another post. This is about mobile / tablet gaming, and I wanted to get everyone's feed back on some things.
Here is the low down. I want to publish iOS games as well as PC games. Thats where the little bits of money come from to allow me to work on SCO more. However, without an iOS license its very difficult to publish anything. So, I have come up with a plan! A plan to get an iOS license and make some games for everyone! Here is the deal.
I want to make 3 SMALLER games for the PC. Unity powered games to play online. I will then take these 3 games, bundle them up, convert them to iOS, and ask the people of the world to help me pay for the iOS license so that I can publish them. Thats the plan!
But first, I need games! So I am making a call out to you, the people of the Space Sim Central Forum, to help me. What kind of "space" "sim" games do you want to see on the iphone or android markets? What are you hoping to see that you haven't so far? Let me know your ideas, and I can make them a reality.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Marcin
Well there a few space combat/trading games on the mobiles now, but what I don’t think they have is any of the old space role playing/adventures games like Megatraveller, Sundog or Space rogue where you have a ship and crew and can travel between different planet.
So that would be my choice.
Would like to see a few more scifi/futuristic games like:
- Wasteland - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasteland_%28video_game%29
- X-Com - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Com
- Space Quest - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Quest
I just think these games would do ok on a mobile device. There are other games like any 4x games or RTS style games that I think would be fairly hard to play on such a small screen.
W00t always so nice to see responses!
Some are doable, others are not! Sadly. However, I think I'm starting to get an idea.
Does anyone here remember the game Stars! ? It was a pretty simple 4x game that I think could lend itself very well to the portable market. Also easy to pick up and put down. Another thought was something along the lines of X-Com but less complex. Basically keep the turn-based combat of the X-Com engine and also work with the overall base construction for abilities.
I looked at the traveller series as well and I feel like that is something that could be easily implemented into an iOS genre. Also, simple enough but maybe a simple 3d Asteroids clone?
What do you guys think?
Marcin
Any combination of some of the games listed would do nicely personally. This is my preference thought, as long as its not too arcade-like and you actually have to put some thought in to what your playing it should be good 🙂
Possible as well, take a look at this game: http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/viewto ... =46&t=1264
That game looks pretty sweet! Kind of the thing I would do if I were making an update to Asteroids.
I've been looking at Stars! for the 4x genre, and I think its something that would be doable in an iOS format. Its very simple graphics wise, and the iOS has more than enough processing power to run all of the calculations required for the game. I'll maybe try to update it a bit (give it a 3d map, for example) but keep everything else 2d still. Gonna have to do a bit more research, but right now that is looking like the most likely candidate. There are plenty of "open world" space sim games for the iOS that I've seen.

**Edit
I just realized I said "smaller" games and here was thinking making a ridiculously complex 4x game would be fine. No thanks! Gonna have to go with something a bit smaller.
I think the main problem would be the most of the arcade games will have been done by now and you have to have a really good spin on one of original games to make it stand out.
I would have to agree. I know I am probably in he small majority that don't like playing any type of action game that has your fingers moving constantly on a mobile device to play. I would probably prefer some type of turn based game.
I totally agree. I never get the twin stick shooters on iOS cause my fingers are just too in the way. something like that probably works just fine in an iPad or something, but the iPhone is just too small. Especially since I know the control schemes themselves work pretty well, its the obfuscation of the content that bothers me.
I would also much rather do something turn based. Its a bit slower, but thats the kind of game I like on the iPhone. Especially something that I can play a few turns, turn it off, and move on. Then I can come back and pick it right back up. Thats what I am going to try to go for. Even if its something as simple as Neptune's Pride if you've played that. Against AI or against other players, it something you can check in on but you don't need to be scrambling to play.
