To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Colony Wars Vengeance
Game Info
- Developer Psygnosis
- Platform PS1/WILL WORK ON PS2
- Released 1998
- Cost 99p-£5.00 on Ebay
The game takes place a few years after the first one, with the ending from the first game
where the Empire is sealed inside the sol system. The Earth Empire civilization fall apart
into tribes and factions fighting a civil war. Then the tribes are united under a new leader
called Kron and the break out from earth begins.
This time You play the role of a Navy pilot, Mertens, who is the narrator throughout the
game.you also have too other co pilots who will accompany you on missions as you progress
through the game.As before the game has a branching storyline told over 41 missions
divided into 19 chapters with between 1-3 missions per chapters and 6 different endings.
One of the major difference between this game and the first one is the addition of a hanger
that the player can enter. In the hanger you will be able to upgrade the ship using tokens
you recive from successfully completing missions, these tokens can be used to upgrade the
shield, engines, afterburners and gyros. As the game proceed you will also be able to select
4 different ship to fly.
The mission themselves are much the same as before ie protect or kill everything, with a number of
objectives to be completed,as well as some two part ones. The big addition here is some planet based missions
Each mission is preceded by an audio briefing, then a launch animation to hide the loading of the level.
Graphics wise the game looks great(for its time)The graphics are more sharper and detailed than the
first game, and again the design of the navy ships is excellent, with a lot of the big ship having rotating
mid sections.Space also looks good not so dark as it was in Colony Wars.(note the game looks better than the vid)
Combat is based on the arcade model, and the basic simulation of Newtonian physics has been some what improved from the first game,as you now have more time in which to maneuver the ship before slowing down. The enemy ship now have a target reticule and your own ship comes with afterburners. The radar has had a zoom feature added to it,as it will nowzoom out when you leave the combat zone, also the filled dots indicates ships in front and empty dots are ship behind. You still have the problem of not being able to tell if the ship are above/below your ship.
sound effects and music is pretty much the same as it was in Colony Wars, with a number of comment from you co pilots and Kron will remind you of your odjectives.
I like this game alot,it's more darker than the first one and the missions and story seem
more interloacked then they were in Colony Wars.Thers still the problem of becoming
disoriented in combat, but the target reticule and afterbunners add a lot to the combat, some
of mission are still very tough to pass with out the cheats.

Cheats.
I never knew of this game but it looks AWESOME .... and if I look at the release date, it's that much better 🙂
All three games are revelation to me,not having played any of them when they first came out.I've always been a bit dismissive of console space sim after a bad experience of the Wing Commander games on the ps1.
But the colony war games are very good especially the joypad controls.
The third one Red Sun is like A level based Freelance with out trading/free form unvierse,
I'am still playing through it at the moment.
Can you get this game on PC? I didn't know Psygnosis made games that recently. They were known for the space sims back on the Amiga, games like Menace and Menace II: Blood Money, both classics at their time.
No all 3 Colony War games are PS1 only ,there is a playstation emulator for the pc,but I dont know how well it works.
Psygnosis was one of the best game developers on the Amiga and its a shame they are not making games anymore 🙁
I never got to play these games but from your reviews and videos Pinback, I hope Sony decides to port these to the PSN so we can play them on the PS3.
I'am supprised that they don't have more of there old games on PSN.
