To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Vuzz - Please don't feel guilty - just keep on  :locomotive:

Where are all the bureaucrats when you need 'em.  There should be a 'committee' waiting to handle these sort of packaging tasks!

arrghh (throws up hands in frustration)  Maybe Santa can be packager in chief  :santa:

@baobobafet

You can repackage them yourself, or just gather Vuzz's work together into a mod which can be hosted on here. Either would be helpful, allow more people to use them, and we'd appreciate it! 🙂

Is it possible to do a pull request in git, for the fixed Asp Explorer and the other improved models?

Probably. The authors of the fixes should be the ones that make the request, so that we can be sure that we're not using people's work without their permission.

Its fairly simple to learn once you have a play with it.  But if none of your friends are forthcoming, ill do it for you.

Hmm... ok, ill risk it.

Is everything packaged together in one place already? Or do i have to pull together your individual mods?

Ok, great

What do you mean by non-official stuff? Surely only non-official is stuff that has not been integrated yet.

Anything I can help with no problem. Some of the various space station mods should be individually packaged IMO, due to varying complexity - and it allows players more control over what changes in game.  Same with ships - although if there are any specific sets that belong together - than of course, it makes sense to package them so.

Vuzz Nice list BTW,

While the game is in Alpha it makes sense to see what fits/works/useful and what doesn't.  Later, anything that should not be in the "final" release, can "easily" be removed.

Vuzz I only repacked them so they work as is in Alpha 29 - there's no info  or readme inside - so you or someone can add later.

I hope 'this' spacestation is in a pull request - If not, I would like to have at least a clean mod with only the station. If it's going to affect frame rate, I would like the option of choice.

Vuzz - My reason for posting a repack of your ships was to make it a 'working' Mod for Alpha29 (which it was not- too many directories - as wrote in my original post), so people who don't know how to nest files to make them mod compatible can still use your fine work.

New links for repacks of your mods if you still want to update your mod to alpha 29 'usable as is' ready status:

Still think we need a committee for this sort of politic - Some repository where everyone can dump mods that can be worked on collectively to prepare then for subsequent versions.

Some beautiful work there Vuzz. -

I made a quick a29 update of Gernot's B-Wing (I hope he won't mind) I know you like your Star Wars Vuzz 🙂

https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B4TOJEZxkYiVdEVWZDN1emRmOEk

If I gave anyone the idea that I'm opposed to diversity in ships or whatever - to clarify, this is not what I meant.

What I was trying to get at is that as much as TC's or Multimods are great - there is a downside in that if parts of the multi mod have limited appeal - or tax your system - you have to live with it -or not use that mod.

If mods in general are to be versatile across a range of computers running on hi & low end systems, the multi mods will need to well considered.

(or come with some warning - cpu/gpu intensive)  This is mainly why I think small specific mods are better. True it may be harder to deal with all the little bits and having them all play together nicely - but in the end the user will have more of a customizible experience with the game - no matter what power system.

Vuzz sry, I wasn't meaning to suggest you didn't have the B-wing already (I'm not surprised 🙂   - hoping maybe I saved you some time - but others will appreciate - I hope.

One thought that I think is a good example on where to cooperate is on how to make the advertisements and billboards mod separate - but still have the necessary hooks for the various mods of buildings stations etc when those calls are made.

Gernot has made some nice billboard code with many different images that would be a good place to start.

Edit: stations_buildings_ads_Marcel-p66-Vuzz-spazeman_alpha26_mod

The code is already here it just needs to be altered to work 'stand alone' as a mod for stock Pioneer.

If the various mods that it supports are added to the mods folder, those mods will be able to access their specific code in the Advertisement mod. (It will of course need to be updated as new mods, buildings, stations, advrt zeppelins? are created wanting to add their hooks to the Advert code.

This also takes the load off model builders to have to include such code and imagery in each of their mods.

(& downloaders)

Animated billboards floating in space around light emanating devices as opposed to actual rectangular shapes anchored to the ground seem more likely in 3200 to me. But who is to say what will be?

Edit: Another idea, If the purpose of the billboard mod is to serve up images in various formats when called upon,

perhaps it should be as simple as that and let the modders add their code as to where those images get placed in their respective mods.

This keeps things cleaner and allows any such billboard mod to hold a larger catalog of imagery.

Calls could be made for specific imagery - but much could be randomized.

Such a billboard mod would need again to work with a stock version of Pioneer.

Vuzz, what you're doing with the cities and stations is similar to what I'm doing with my factions mod. I haven't seen the large Vlastan buildings before. I'm going to steal them! :spiteful:

I hope 'this' spacestation is in a pull request - If not, I would like to have at least a clean mod with only the station.

OK. I haven't made a pull request because this type of model is going away in a few months. This is my idea for a blue faction mod. It isn't a 'clean' mod, in fact it's a very dirty mod. There's lots of unused code in there that needs to be cleaned up.  It has my most nearly completed version of the big_crappy_spacestation. I still want to put some more details in the interior and add pad numbers.

I just noticed that the blue faction mod disables the ships' squad signs. I'm not sure why. I've completed the yellow faction mod without causing this problem. Btw, the yellow faction is kind of a joke. I used the oldest, ugliest versions of everything I could find to make it look like you're in a primitive 'frontier' environment. Anyway, I'll fix it before I post it for real.

Nice Marcel I will have to check this out.

Vuzz:

(in english)

Pardon my google french

To make a mod of just the advertisements that works with regular Pioneer.

Make it so it just serves images to the game as well as third party mods when any mod calls for them. This would be a foundation mod that other mods could plug into.

@ Vuzz

Do you mean the color of the interior lighting? I didn't think about it. You're right. I'll change the lights in the other stations. As I said, it isn't finished yet. You may have noticed that I changed the scanners on your 'nice' variant. That's only for the blue faction. The others have the scanners you intended.

The wall material is white. The sodium-vapor inspires lights make the walls look yellow. I hadn't noticed the pylon. It's probably my mistake. Thanks!

I did my best :0 sry for my martian dialect 🙂 I hope you understand maybe some of what I am trying to say.

I notice both you and Marcel have similar code for the advertisements (billboard pictures) - do they conflict if I am running both mods?

It looks like they will be arguing 🙂   This is making my point perhaps?

Anyways I took a shot at getting the Orion Cruiser working - but no joy, so I will throw it into the 'virtual bin' for someone else to see if it can be salvaged.   https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B4TOJEZxkYiVVUZoM29RYXN4cUE

Hi all.

A year ago it was compiling Pioneer Alpha 17 for my grandson. For this Christmas I have prepared a gift you better.

It is a "big mod" that includes my best work in LUA modules, and the best model ships and space stations (according to my taste), made by @ potsmoke66 (Gernot), @ Marcel, @ Vuzz, and of course, those who collaborate in the development and construction of the core of Pioneer and make this possible.

The "official pre-launch" will take place on December 24 at 0 hours in London and work for the last "Nightly builds".

The final release will coincide with the release of version Alpha 30.

For now, I want to show it, and share it with you.

@ baobobafet That advert code is from Gernot, aka potsmoke66. I don't know if there will be a conflict or not, but it probably shouldn't be running twice.
