To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

picture in picture mode

Been thinking a lot lately and for me that is dangerous....anyhooo

how possible is it that a picture in picture mode could be added to Pioneer? maybe as a ship upgrade. When activated a small window would appear (in the top left for example) with an alternate view of your ship (which is selectable in options or something)?

my concept is when you are performing a manual landing, you could have the main view on forward but the picture in picture could be showing a top down external view so you know if you are directly above the landing pad or could be showing a side on view so you can see how far to the pad you are away??

Perhaps with a ventral camera.

Changes were made in alpha 16 (the addition of a camera class to the code) to allow for exactly this sort of thing to be done. It hasn't been actually done yet, though, because the user interface itself is currently being completely rewritten. I can't find an open feature request for picture-in-picture, but I do know that it's something that the devs have always agreed was a good idea.
