To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I didn't Cody! I had forgotten them! 😯 Epic, reminds me in parts of "The Pusher".

Now, something with a different beat....

Solstitial salutations!

Back in 1969, my two favourite bands both released double-albums. In Live Dead, the Grateful Dead captured their unique live sound on tape. I believe this was the first live concert to be recorded on 16-track equipment. Acid Rock, Prog Rock, West Coast Rock, call it what you like, the Dead pushed the boundaries with some very original music. However, I'll play their cover of the Reverend Gary Davis classic...

Β

Pink Floyd were also making innovative music. Before they became a stadium band (after the AHM tour, which broke them worldwide), they were still playing clubs and colleges, and in my opinion, they were at their peak on the live half of Ummagumma. Richard Wright's keyboard playing was always at the heart of their music, and it was probably at its finest on this track...

It's just as well I no longer collect CDs/vinyl, as this Pink Floyd box set would've broken the bank! It even includes the movies La VallΓ©e and More. The old collector within me still lusts after it though. Currently selling for Β£340 or more - ouch!

Β

Anyway, a track from More...

More from More (the nightmare scene)...

Live, they stretched and slowed the song - very atmospheric!

Gilmour is one of the best guitarists ever. Not had any interest in anything they did that Waters wasn't involved in.

Gilmour's guitar break on this recording (from his On an Island tour) of Comfortably Numb is awesome!

The Live in Gdansk album is well worth having.

Traffic is one of those bands that I remember hearing about a lot but don't know any of their songs.

Steve Winwood (the main man in Traffic) is a hugely-talented multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. I'd struggle to name their best album, but The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys and When the Eagle Flies are my favourites.

Argus is a classic album! And as I've probably said before, the cover art is very evocative.

what is the difference between Small Faces and Faces

"Or find myself a rock and roll band, that needs a helping hand."

Faces were an excellent band, and A Nod Is As Good As A Wink To A Blind Horse is a fine album.

Classical music as only Keith Emerson could do it...

He was an awesome stage act, crouched atop his hammond organ, rocking it to and fro, jamming daggers into the keyboard.

I suspect it was used as theme music for a 1970's TV programme

Yep - This Week, which was a current affairs series.
