To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Not sure if they would tho, but here a pic testing volcanic glow using modified shaders (and some code), looks great at "night".

Shadmar, you certainly have an eye for a good photo there. I really like what your doing playing around with the shaders, it really does look like lava flows! :girlglasses:

Yeah! I suspect that there are molten planets out there that look very much like that.

I wonder how this effect would look on a Brown Dwarf... got time to indulge my curiosity on that? 🙂 For actual stars I figure make the whole thing glow, but Brown Dwarfs might very well have hot clouds and cold clouds, especially since (I think...) they still have active convection cycles while "proper" stars don't... so you could get a lot more variation in surface temperatures than just a few sunspots and flares...

I guess if brown dwarves where drawn like gas giants with a tint of red, it would work great by glowing gases. in shader.

They've found a brown dwarf with a nice dusty disc encircling it. Possibilities of planetary formation, perhaps?

Last time I checked, brown dwarfs already glowed. Has that changed?

I like the lava glows 🙂
