To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Elite:Dangerous Novel "...And Here the Wheel"

Hi Everyone

I've launched my own Elite Dangerous Novel crowd sourcing page:

<a href=" http://www.indiegogo.com/EliteDangerous-And-here-the-wheel?show_todos=true&a=1801378

Please stop by and have a look, and pledge if it looks interesting.

I know the concept doesn't interest everybody and I know a lot of you are fans of Drew Wagar and his Oolite stories, but I believe I can add something a bit special and a bit unique to Elite lore.

I think the idea of a game coming out with novel(s) is fantastic and hopefully enough people can get behind it to mak it happen.

Thanks everyone.

Cheers,

John

Interesting idea! Raising money to be the one who gives money to that money raising system <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_biggrin.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I'll pledge when I get home tonight. Good luck with it.

Hi everyone.

A quick update:

There are now two movies on my crowd sourcing page, one akin to a game 'intro' and the other of myself discussing my Elite passion and my writing style.

I have also added links to my youtube channel and my facebook Elite novel page (

)

Michael Brookes (who is writing the official companion novella to be boxed with Elite:Dangerous) interviewed me and is now up on his blog:  http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.nz/2012/12/elite-dangerous-author-interview-john.html

We are just over 20% on funding so come on over and please help me out!

Thanks

John

Hi John,

Your interview answered a doubt that I had regarding your and other indie funding project: why not Kickstarter?

Indeed it seems there is a significant difference in exposure between it and other sites.

Anyway, best of luck for your project (I already pledged!).

Cheers,

Pyros

P.S. - Is Wellington still "Hobbit crazy" nowadays? (was there on November 24th ;))

Hi Pyros

Yes, pretty Hobbit crazy at the moment.  There is a big Gandalf statue looming over the theatre, hobbit signs and bill boards everywhere.  Air New Zealand's safety video is all hobbit-esque.  It has died down a bit since the grand opening.

Sorry if the links aren't working.  I'll try again:

Indiegogo:

Facebook:

Yes its a shame that kickstarter isn't International, I"m sure I"d be doing a whole lot better If I had that extra exposure that Kickstarter would bring.

Hi everyone

Thanks to everyone that supported my novel during its funding phase.

Now the exciting phase begins: writing. I would love to share this journey with you so I have set up a website: www.andherethewheel.co.nz which I will be updating with story information like characters and places and I plan to start a video diary as well.

come on over and have a look!

Thanks,

John

Hi everyone.

Another update on the site: www.andherethewheel.co.nz.

I've been told to keep some secrets and my characters don't have names, but I'm pushing on anyway.  35,000 words written so far in Operation Draft Zero.

Cheers

Hello fellow Commanders.

This weeks update is up: http://wp.me/p32OwJ-6E

The finish line is right in front of me. I talk about my anguish wink.png and my plan moving forward. I also talk about the novel's centerpiece and touch on a few of the normal subjects.

Thanks for dropping by.

John

Hi

My Novel "Elite:And Here The Wheel" has been published and is currently being pushed hard by my publisher Fantastic Books Publishing.  The first press release is out: http://www.prlog.org/12343896-two-boyhood-dreams-and-first-for-new-zealand.html

Its a fast paced thrill ride (likened by some to Die Hard in space) that is inspired by the likes of Matthew Reilly, Lee Child and of course Elite itself, which the novel is based around.

Please check it out and share the news.

Thanks,

John
