To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

The State of Play

A potent new update over on IndieDB with some cool GIFs and some blurb regarding improvements to the UI, hinting at sounds on the horizon. The prototype starts to take shape as the UI becomes geared towards the easier management and control of your wings and the inclusion of mining betrays the direction of the games mechanics in the short to medium term.

Also we enter the runnings for the IndieDB 'Indie of the year awards' for the first time so please head over and vote, no registrations required - all this and more over on 'State Machine' the latest IndieDB article.

More new images over on the blog with two posts since my last update here: â€˜The Needs of the Many’ talks about the evolution of ones man’s dream into a team of talented and driven developers and if you’re hungry for more check-out ‘Resistance is Futile’ which is the previous IndieDB update talking about the swift change in graphical direction and an amusing tussle amongst the team.

We have a newsletter now which will grant you access to the media before it is publicly released and the aim is to release something twice monthly and much the same as these posts, will serve as a focal point for the spread of media – the difference? You get to see the cool stuff first.

Finally, here is the latest video which is a menagerie of sorts as we cover the progress of the game over the last 4-5 months in the second ‘Progress’ video and if you're interested, here's a link to the first one.

Coming soon is a new vid showing off Frigates and fixed weapons, mining, new weapons effects and an extra special surprise so be sure to sign up to the newsletter to see it first!

Peace,

James

The camera angles you get in Shallow Space are great. Looks like there was a bigger ship out of control near the end, could or can that ship collide with other ships and cause damage? And on explosions do you plan on leaving wreckage behind and could it be used as an obstacle in a engagement?

Naaaah, there's too much going on for ship collisions, it would just turn into a clusterfuck - maybe a limited blast radius for the larger craft.

Maybe, I wasn't planning too but it comes up a lot so I might do wreckages for the larger ships (Battlecruisers and above) I plan to have clusters of wreckage (much the same as the clusters of asteroids) which can be reclaimed so it fits in with that mechanic also I suppose 🙂
