To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

What is this? Is this a joke or did Haxus finally pull the plug? SoH has been my favorite game ever since I discovered it, however, I have been waiting, patiently, for years for him to clean it up and make it a much better game than it was when I was playing.
I finally read that he has fixed the lag and then BAM! Game shutdown?
I'm about to cry.
I just noticed this as well after trying to log in and the launcher no longer works.
What's even better is that Haxus apparently took the forums down as well, effectively severing the community communication.
I know that the Hazeron community and Haxus had been at odds in the past, I wonder if something happened that pushed him over the edge?
Could be many reasons or it may just be project fatigue after so many years of trying to achieve goals with limited resources, he may have just decided to take a break from it.
Although it looks like the door has been left open to come back to it at some point.
I expect every single player was equally surprised and shocked. It does seem like its final, but very odd that the forum was closed. It was one of the better game communities I've been part of.
I found myself randomly searching the internet for more info, not much to be found though.
I really hope someone brings the game back to life, even if its not the same engine/name etc. It was so unique it really deserves to exist.
There still is no other game that lets you stand on a planet and look at the stars, then seamlessly walk into a ship that you designed and built, then order helmsman to fly off towards a star and actually be able to get there, and build a new colony.
I know that the Hazeron community and Haxus had been at odds in the past, I wonder if something happened that pushed him over the edge?
From what I experienced Haxus never really cared that much what the community thought apart from reporting bugs. He had his plan and stuck to it. He would implement new stuff to an already broken game without hesitation. He saw us all as testers, nothing more, nothing less. However much we whined made no difference, he just carried on. One day he decides he's had enough and shuts the whole thing down with no apology. After all, we didn't pay for anything, we're just testing. GLaDos would be proud.
His final message says it all really:
"Friends,
Shores of Hazeron is no more.
The project source will remain safely packed away, in case someone with a large development budget realized what a tragedy it is to let this truly visionary project go into the dust bin. One of you must know James Cameron. ;^)
Developing Shores of Hazeron has taken tons of painstaking work with many grueling moments and epic challenges. I hope you had as much fun as I did.
Thanks for playing.
Yours truly,
Haxus"
From what i gathered it was costs of maintaining the servers plus stress/frustration.
But there's hope.

Shores of Hazeron is morphing into a different game. It may be back sooner than you think, sort of. Ship designs and DNA may play a role. Lots of juicy code needs to be distilled; we'll see what remains.
Check here once in a while for updates.
