To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I was catching up on some space sim info and found this thread on the Heresy War forums and it looks pretty legit. Looks like the developers working on 'Reminants of the Stars' ( http://www.cornersuitestudios.com/index.html ) might be calling it quits on the project 🙁
This is rough specially since PC gaming is slowing down never mind the fact that space sim developers are very slim few. Sad to see this one go but there is some hope yet for the title. The devs are thinking about releasing the current code to open source and let the community bring this title to the finish line.

Excellent news to make a remnants thread in here. I hope this'll spawn more interest in releasing the project.
We'll keep you informed with the latest comments of fred fettinger on the subject.
I emailed Mike (can't remember the last name) but he was one of the lead developers but he never got back to me :(. I know my opinion is if a development house is going to shutdown a project entirely why not release the code to the community? I'm mean make it GNU so people can't make a killing selling the code. But just to say it can only be used for free projects.
That would be mike mullan you're talking about: I've had a few erratic contacts with him, but nothing for the last year. However, I've found out that fred fettinger (the lead programmer) was actually a much more reliable source (he's binary man on the HW forums). I had to phone him and convince him that remnants was still spawning interest for him to come to the boards though. I think that he mostly needs manpower for remnants, so an open release might be possible.
Like our conversation on Heresy Wars forums Starlord, not sure if this will happen personally. I would be surprised if they did release it to open source. With the explaination that the game wasn't too close to being done and with no work having been done in over a year and there game engine getting dated every day it's not being worked on.
Don't get me wrong I would like to see this one come back and get made and consumed by gamers. But maybe people should embrace the vega strike engine more and create more projects because anyone can start using that right now and the engine is actually pretty damn good.
I saw where binaryman was coming from about the code and once you release it to GNU you can no longer use it or least charge for the same code etc... so I guess this is entirely up to the code holders and whether they are willing to part with there work for free 🙂
We'll see though
So it would seem, indeed.
He did say though that remnants could be resurrected in the future. I do prefer to hear this than for it to die, so it seems we'll have to wait and see.
Anyhow, as I said, just in case the game was lost, I intend to try my best to save essentials like the script and models in order to leave the chance of it being resurrected as a MOD. Hopefully, if it comes to this, fred will agree.
