To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to inform everyone that the end of ST3 will be on Sunday January 24, 2010 at 11:59 PM EST. We will be then bringing up the ST4 on a new server on Monday once all of the DNS servers have updated to the new IP address. The new server will hopefully help out in the latency issues. We will be doing a full wipe of all the character information and even accounts. We will be posting a link soon as the site up and ready for signups your new account on. We should have this before the end of ST3 so you can sign up early and get your account name you want.

Thanks,

EnB Emulator Team

I really don't understand why there is no talk about this game WebSite = ( http://www.net-7.org/ )

The Developers working on this are done a really great job bringing this game back from the dead.

This was one of my all time favorites and its better than the orig.

They are running a full time multi player server and a test server for patches.

Note: You will have to be registered at both the NET7 site and on the Forum page separately to be able to log into the game after install.

Revised 2010-07-22

here are the install instructions I used... of course you need to dl the files from the download section

Please make sure you are an Administrator of your machine and you have got ALL the latest windows updates, including service pack 3 (winxp) and dot net 3.5. dotnet3.5 Link Here

Look for enb files here

http://enb-emulator.com/index.php?/forum/91-downloads /"> http://enb-emulator....http://enb-emula ... downloads/

1.Download the EnB Game Client and install it:

2. Download the EnB client patch and install it:

3. REMOVE any previous versions of Net7 Multiplayer

4. Download and install the Net7 Setup:

5. Go to the Net-7 website to Register: http://www.net-7.org/index.php

6. Check your Email Inbox for the activation Link and activate your account

6a. Once you have your first account activated you can make upto a total of 3 accounts using the same email address (but different login name) by going back to step 5.

7. Run the Net7 tool from Start - Program Files-EA GAMES - Earth & Beyond - Net7 Config

7a. Hit test performance button on Net7 config tool and click ok when the test is complete

8. Run C:\Net7\bin\LaunchNet7.exe or click the LaunchNet7 icon from your desktop

If you are running vista or above make sure you run the game as Admin

If you want to try one of the 3 classes not in live, install the Character and Starship Creator and do this...

Right click the shortcut to the Character and Starship Creator, go to properties. You should see a "target path" on the general tab. Go to the end of what's in that box after the quotes and type a single space, then:

-noclassrestrictions

then click apply and ok. After that, use that shortcut to start your character creator and you should be set.

I tried the E&B project about two years ago and it was somewhat playable back then. Are they getting close to release quality VinhDucanh?

I've playing this religiously for about 6 months now and haven't found any problems other than a few minor bugs that get fixed pretty much right away. Usually always a GM online. Quite a Few people online at all times.

There hasn't been any player wipes since I started playing but that could change. This is only a Stress Test.

You have to register at 2 sites

1: http://enb-emulator.com

2: http://net-7.org/

You have to Download ( All links are on site in forum downloads section )

1: the old orig demo.

2: the last patch from the old days 🙂

3: the NET-7 Launcher

4: the NET-7 Character Generator If you want access to the 3 new add on characters. Why wouldn't you ?

once installed edit the shortcut target and add (-noclassrestrictions) to the end of the line without the parentheses.

They won't show up at the top but if you click on the arrows at the bottom and page thru the classes there there.

Note: Don't forget to use the E&BConfig.exe to set your graphics and sound. It's in the EBCONFIG folder.

I have it running on an old laptop with WinXP, also on a Win7-32 setup and a Win7-64 setup and they all run fine.

You can Multi Box, or or just start a second instance to play more than one char at a time. Limit 1 char per registration online at one time. Example: If you have 3 email accounts ( registrations ) you can play 3 chars at a time.

How big is the playerbase anyhow? I'm not expecting 46,000 average, but more then 100 a day would be nice.

Sorry1 it's 3am and I'm Drunk! (New Shift) but I need to make a reply. and I'm no good at English (Writing)

I'm sorry but there are not that many playing (50 to 200) maybe EVE has 40,000 !

When you log into the net7 client there is a number behind the server name that is the number that are on line at the time. The people that are doing the redevelopment are doing a very good job at keeping the game going and I wish I could be of more help. At this point NONE!

This was actually a Westwood Studio game that started in 2002 and they dropped it after EA bought the company out and canceled it to not interfere with there new game SIM3 and what I understand it was the last game produced from Westwood Studios. The Emulator developers cannot change the client portion of the game due to copyright restrictions but the server side has been rebuilt from the ground up and is working very well. The biggest worry that I have is that EA will try to shut them down. All my hope is that EA will release the game to Open Source so changes could be made to the client. THIS GAME COULD BECOME SOMETHING BIG.

In the big picture I wish that there would be more games like this with open development so people like me could take part in the development process. This game had enticed me to go to collage to learn programming and database structure mainly to be able to setup a web site with a game database. I understand that they are are already available but I have been wanting to do this since the game was originally released just so I could learn to put up my own site.

I have a regular job and have no desire other than a hobby to learn this process for my own web development skills. I've now trying to learn MySql and PHP to be able to maybe create something of my own and maybe use it for other projects.

I understand Company's want to keep knowledge locked up so they can make money but there should be games like this where people can LEARN. The world would be a much better place if there were opportunities like this to do better.

(BREAK: SORRY GOT Ta Pee )

Just try It and be Happy that there are people out there like these developers that spend there free time to keep Space Sims Alive. Did I mention that this game is really cool and could expand to your wildest dreams if the client was only open source. Not so Old School! Great Graphics! Much Potential! Need more games like this!

That's always the worry about projects that are based on existing titles is that your only one official letter away from shutting down the project or face some time in court. It is really a shame since we all know EA is not going to resurrect the title and it is almost 10yr old game now. It would be nice of EA to just release the game source and just restrict profiting off the MMO so this way it stays free.

50-200 user population isn't that bad really when you think about it. There isn't too many people that even remember the game to even look for a community project of it. Because most MMO's when they close down are forgotten. I didn't know they couldn't touch the client. So I wonder what they can change on the server side to really improve gameplay from the original?

But I am with you VinhDucanh, I need to take my ass back to school and officially learn mysql/php and would like to learn java as well. All my kids are almost in full-time school so maybe next year I will be able to get started on that again.

Sobered up a bit !

Although I do not consider myself any kind of programmer by a long shot I have already been to school for VB, C++ ,Java , Web Development (Dreamweaver), Unix, MS Access ,MS Excel and a few others I can't remember and still carry my 4.0. This is just a hobby for me. I just wanted to be able to look at the code and understand it and maybe make some minor changes to it. I'm at the point now where I just want to be able to place a web page up where you can search the database and present it in a good format. I guess you would consider it server side scripting with MySql/PHP. There are classes for this I just haven't had the money or the time to go. My Wife has been disabled since last November with no income at all (WC Case pending) We are still trying to learn to live with just 1 income so schools are out for the moment.

Back to the game. Even though the client is protected there is still a lot that can be done on the server side of things.

They have tried to stay true to the original release but have added some new sectors into the game that weren't in the original including new mobs, navs, artwork, storyline etc... They can tweak all of the settings for the drops , missions, specials, weapons, shields etc... The client is just the front end to be able to play. The client could defiantly use a few improvements but it does help to keep the original feel of the game intact. Most of the real work is done in the back end. At one point there was a setup that you could download and even run your own server for testing purposes with the complete database included. It has been removed from the site due to some people trying to put up there own online server. I really wish I had a copy of that so I could continue to learn how games like this operate. It's been said that they were going to re-post and updated version of this and I'm still waiting. This would be a great educational project if it were truly open source and might entice more people to create and play games like this.

This is the game that truly got me motivated to go to school in the first place. MOO2 was my favorite game prior to this

I'm so glad EnB has been resurrected from the dead. KUDOS to all the DEV'S that participate in projects like this.
