To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hi all!
SO...loaded ? here...
Having played only SF:RU (and LOVED it) - is it dead, btw? - and always been piqued by Eve, and whatnot...but not having played any of those games, can anyone tell me:
1) How much is SF:RU like Freelancer2? (yes, i researched, but can't actually seem to find anyone - in real life, mind you - who's played both and can explain the diffs. a little clearer) - is it possible to just play (not teh campaign) like in SF:RU? Once i got all the upg's and the pieces...POW. Lotsa fun!! Gave myself a serious crick in the neck one weekend crackin' out...nothin' like watching a Capital ship go up all because of you...
2) is Homeworld 2/X3, etc not considered Space-sim, because of the RTS gameplay?
Basically, I guess I'm asking, is there any space sim similar to SF:RU, but that doesn't get too tedious (read: Eve)? And that's not slowly dying on the vine? I am super interested in Infinity, though...

I haven't played SFRU all the way through but comparing it to FL there is some things that are the same. You can play the story or go off and just do your own thing for a while. There isn't any crafting in FL like you do in SFRU with the ship equipment. I think the combat is better in FL. There is hacking in SFRU and none in FL. There is multiplayer in FL but not in SFRU. And the most important that has kept FL alive all these years is the modding community. There is plenty of mods you can play in single player or on multi-player servers to increase the re-playability.

I haven't played Homeworld 2 but I played the original and I haven't played X3 but have played X2. If I had to guess by playing both that X3 is like empire building almost like EVE Online.
Welcome to SSC HedonismBot.
I am also looking forward to Infinity. I don't see a 2009 release I would say 2010. But it looks amazing I just hope they keep it going.
