To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Looking for a type of game

Looking for a space game, preferably procedurally generated, where I can move in generated space as well as land on a generated planet and explore it. Can be modern or retro. I'd like the transition between land and space to be seamless but if such a thing doesn't exist i'll have to deal with seams. Thanks!

Noctis IV? Frontier: Elite series? Evochron series?

Just checked out Noctis..it's amazing. Is there any way to change controls so that I've got mouselook and WASD for movement? would really like to play it with VR

Does FFE or any evochron let you leave your ship and explore the planet?

Pioneer and Ad Astra are two other games with seamless planet transitions both free and also theirs Paragon which is an offshoot of Pioneer but cost.

As for being able to get out of the ship as well as seamless planet and procedurally generated universe theirs Rodina which is still very early in it's development but has huge future potential also I think it's Evochron mercenary which lets you out of the ship in a mech suit also one of the later Battlecruiser games let out of the ship.

Tomorrows war has seamless planet landings but it's more of a wing commander style game and it's not a game I would recommend in less you like playing bug filled Russian space sim with the worlds worst English voice acting.

Precursor allows you out of the ship but has none of the seamless/procedurally bits to it.

I'd say play Elite Dangerous when it comes out, but it won't have anything planet-side for a good while.

Anyway, it's not really a game, but you might want to check out Space Engine.  Probably won't keep you busy for TOO long, but it is just plain cool.

I have to admit to a weakness: I sometimes hope No Man's Sky will crash and burn due to the fact that they have at least a temporary PS4 exclusivity deal and get all sorts of attention that they don't really deserve (because they've showed practically zero gameplay).  When I'm not being a vindictive sociopath though, I hope it'll be great.  Besides, the poor bastards lost everything when their office flooded so they deserve some slack.

And too arcadey for everyone's taste, huh.

No offense but if I may add perhaps I think there's rarely any British-made game that had impressed me recently both AAA and indie, especially space sims (E:D doesn't count of course).

I think eventually the developer for Limit Theory will be adding planet landing, everything in that game is procedural (I can't wait for this one).

Orbiter 2010 would be another seamless planet one although I think it only has our own solar system unless it been enlarged.

Couple in development are Infinity and Nova Voyager.
