To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Space Sims Similiar to eve/x3

Hey guys

im not sure if im posting in the correct area. sorry if im not ;-;

anyway. ive been playing X3 for over 2 years now and i still love that game. but it has become a little old until rebirth is released ofcourse. but for now im after a new experience

Ive also tried eve but unfortantly i cant afford to pay to play right now. which really sucks because i loved that game.

ive also played freespace 2 and freelancer years ago. they have been and gone

So im curious/wondering what else is out there in the space sim genre that can "match" up to the game play on something like X3, from what ive heard is that X3 is the most indepth space sim in exsistance right now thats single player and not requiring an internet connection

I know this sounds crazy, but big space battles are a big factor to me. and freedom. most space games i see on steam are just controlling one ship and upgrading it and following a story. not really "simulation", i love to build my life in space and then eventually jump in a big ship and see lots of lasers going pewpewpew

Though i would like a game with intelligent AI. X3 has great AI and mods to improve it ofcourse. but to really go far in the game you have to control a "fleet" im more of a solo player. like, i want freedom ofc. but id like to have my own single ship, big ship :D, and join AI in there battles and war with AI that can make there own decisions and live in the universe as well as me the player

Though that sounds really complex. so im not sure if theres a game out there like that besides eve which again is p2p x.x unfortantly

You might want to check out Freeworlds:Tides of War, the mod for Freelancer, when it releases in a few months.

ive already done the freelancer mods. its been and gone for me. i know it sounds crazy but im really interested in "new" technology/graphical space sim games. like the graphics on X3 if you can run it at full is impressive. so im after something a little more on the 2011/2012 side

Im sure its a great mod, freelancer was a great game for its time. but the other thing that puts me off the "star wars" theme. ive seen so much star wars in my life that i dont really want to see anymore lol. i love seeing unique races, ships, and seeing the imagination of the game company

Chances are theres always a game or two out there that go under the radar, which is why i go searching. games that arent "media frenzied" so you tend to not hear about them

Perhaps Evochron Mercenary? You only fly fighter sized ships, but it has a lot of the things you are looking for I think.

(as a side note, the devs for FW:ToW have basically changed the entire graphical side of the game. They've added things like anti-aliasing, bump mapping, shadows, DirectX 9, dynamic lighting)

Sounds good. i might check it out for some side play. but idk for some reason the whole star wars thing just i cant do that anymore haha. i know its huge and people love it. 😛

Evochron i have heard of that one, and yea, what turned me off that was that you only fly fighter sized ships, i know its crazy, but i like a game were i can jump into a capital

I can't really think of anything else that fits your description and is currently released. Other people might have more ideas.

I would suggest Vendetta online as well.. It is MMO but not to the same level as EVE but the flight dynamics are more compelling.

unfortantly vendetta is pay to play. which is why i cant play eve, if i could i would 😛

And i cant play black prophecy, guess why? they dont liscence australian access and have ip blocks -,- i remember the days u could just download an mmo and play, no p2p stuff or ip blocks

Starport gemini i guess is the only game thats even close to X3. the only thing that turns me off Starport is that appearently theres no 3D map. and you cant send your ship up and down, only turn and forward and back

Universal Combat might fill your need if you have several hours to learn controls...

Full version is public domain and still avail on many legit download sites.
