To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I wonder what will be the difference between this game and Star Citizen because they both seem so much more advanced than the rest of the competition.
I define several main differences:
1. Multiplayer-oriented (Star Citizen) VS singleplayer (X Rebirth).
2. Way of marketing, also mainly due to their funding models. In this case, I like X Rebirth's way of marketing a lot better. I can explain this further if you wish.
I think most of the differences flow from this. The rest are what concepts the games are based on gameplay-wise.
You only have the one ship that you can move around in the X-Rebirth the others are controlled through a VR system
Just being wondering when they were going to post any more videos, only about a week to go now.
If they won't post more, I will. I am waiting for preloading to unlock 😉
I think we will be seeing a flood of news from both egosoft and their publisher over the next week.

Star Citizen will have a sweet and engaging Newtonian-based flight model whereas X:Rebirth is actually more arcady than its predecessors (they seem to have removed even the last signs of inertia X3 had). Descent in space.
I, for one, am very excited about this.
I'm at least as emotionally invested in Star Citizen as anybody, but I really wish people would stop using it to bash other games. We've been waiting some 20 years for space sims to be common again, I'm more than happy for there to be many different ones, even though SC looks like the holy grail, especially since SC is a year away. I'm surprised there aren't more people celebrating these on a space sim website. I for one prefer realistic physics as well, but that doesn't mean games with arcade physics can't be fun, I'd kill for another Freespace or X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter (so far the X Rebirth physics reminds me of Freespace more than anything else... Descent is a good observation too).
Rebirth just looks better and better the more I see of it, but I will admit that my main concern is whether the UI is really better than the previous X games. The old X UI was a constant frustration and often stops me from playing the game when I feel tempted to eek some more profit out of my industrial empire. I don't get the impression from videos that the devs realize quite how bad that UI was. By now it is obvious from videos that the X Rebirth UI is totally different than the X3 UI, but I am not yet totally convinced that it is really better, that it won't be a huge chore to manage things that you simply must manage all the time.
Still, from the looks of it I think the worst case scenario will be that it is only marginally better than X3, which means hundreds of hours of great gameplay (possibly hampered by UI aggravation). That alone makes it the most exciting thing this year.
Never having been a fan of the X series I strangely find myself looking forward to seeing what Egosoft have done.
Just hope their are no huge patches on the day of release.
Looking forward to your postings on X-Rebirth Robske. I think personally compairing X:R to SC is a little unfair since we have one game coming out this month and the other in 2015. The SC team would be stupid not to be looking at all of today's games and gathering feedback on what they do good and what they do bad and make sure there game is adjusted to please the most people. I will admit X:R for me excites me but I have yet to complete a X game because I usually get bored with it. It 'looks' like X:R has what I am looking for in a game its whether they will deliver the experience that I am looking for? I have always like the vastness of space, consequences of actions and the ability to do anything I want to with interactions. This exploration video looks great to me and I like what they have done thus far. I hope Egosoft does support their game (which they have done well for their past games) and we see some addons or at least patches that make the experience better.
I know mods made all of the X games better as years went by so I hope this will still be the case. I will probably pick this game up in Dec after I give Egosoft a month to patch the release issues. 😉
I have X rebirth standing by on my HDD (preloaded on steam). Now just 6 days waiting.

how big was the download?.
Got too wait for mine coming in the post from Egosoft so it might be the following week before I get it.
About 4GB. That's also how much space it takes currently on my SSD.
Smaller than I was expecting.
The X space opera, think I just stepped through a time warp to the 1970s :haha:
Any ideas when the review embargo is lifted? I love the idea of X3... but as someone said... "It feels like an economics simulator with your office just so happening to be on a spaceship" X: Rebirth sounds a lot more promising and looking forward to playing it Friday however in the meantime I think i'm going to dive in to some X3 mods!
RPS has thoughts on the demo of the game http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/10/14/hands-on-x-rebirth/ guess we should start seeing reviews in the next few days.
That music is just awesome. Also reminds me of nightwish.
