To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Here is some nice info on the upcoming X3: Terran Conflict 2.0 'The Aldrin Missions'

Article from http://www.egosoft.com/x/xnews/200902_1_44News.html

X3: Terran Conflict 2.0:

Egosoft recently announced that X3: Terran Conflict - The Aldrin Missions will be available at all major US retail outlets from 7th April 2009 on DVD-ROM. Concurrent with this release, the 2.0 version will also be made available to existing owners of X3: Terran Conflict via Steam download or from the Egosoft.com website. As is normally the case, we advise Steam users that their update will be downloaded and applied automatically. They should not try to apply the patch from the Egosoft website.

This latest version, entitled X3: Terran Conflict 2.0 – The Aldrin Missions, will feature a host of new missions and more great content, in addition to the customary attention paid to fixing existing issues.

In X3: Terran Conflict 2.0 - The Aldrin Missions the long-lost Terran colony of Aldrin is rediscovered and after many years of isolation, the Terrans are keen to bring the Aldrans back into the fold. The Terrans are making a massive effort to colonise areas of space thought lost or inaccessible. No colonisation is easy and you will not only be asked to help in the shaping of the new frontier but you will also be called upon to provide protection for the colonisation effort against forces determined to oppose the Aldrin expansion. You will be able to build new Terran stations and complexes, a new Terran ship will be available and a host of other new features are introduced as you play a decisive role in the shaping of this new Terran frontier.

The preparation for this particular update has been slightly different. This time around the decision was made to broaden the field of testers and therefore the extent of the feedback. DevNet Level 3 users were invited to download the Beta version of 2.0 and provide feedback to the core development team. As Level 3 DevNet users have not signed the same Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) that Level 5 and above have, there was a calculated risk in taking this step. For the most part the attitude of this extended testing team has been commendable and Egosoft staff are very pleased with the quality of some of the testing and feedback. As usual Egosoft is indebted to the extensive network of volunteer developers and testers, without whose support the X Universe games wouldn't quite be the same. X3: Terran Conflict 2.0 lead developer, Owen Lake, gave X-News his overall impression of the Terran Conflict project, "I think X3: Terran Conflict is a fitting end to the X Trilogy, which started with X - Beyond the Frontier 10 years ago. From the furthest reaches of the X-Universe to Earth itself, we've seen so many amazing things. Terran Conflict still has part of its soul in its predecessors but we've added so much to it that it stands on its own as the best X game yet."

In a further development, Egosoft managing director, Bernd Lehahn has stated, "We are pleased to say that in association with our publisher, Koch Media, X3-Gold will be available in Germany and some other EU markets from April 3rd. This exclusive package includes X3: Reunion 2.5 and X3: Terran Conflict 2.0 and will mean that X3: Terran Conflict 2.0 - The Aldrin Missions will have almost 'worldwide' availability."

X3: Terran Conflict 2.0 - The Aldrin Missions will be published in North America by IGS Games inc.

Hmm... you have Terran Conflict 2.0 plus the X3 Gold edition coming. I might pick this up after it comes out to give X3 another whirl. I know I got bored played X2, I hoped they fixed all that. I don't mind some empire building but I don't want to have that be my sole purpose in the game.I also would like to get into some good combat and space exploration.

Looks likes Egosoft are up to some monkey business with this gold release,as they now say you can't buy it from retail in the uk.

Guess this is to stop anyone in the US buying it and spoiling sales of X3TC?.

I wonder that myself since both the X3TC2.0 and X3Gold come out at the same time. Why not just release the gold version and leave it at that worldwide. I mean unless you are a space sim fan you have probably never heard of the X series and it really because of their release practices. I have no real need for the X3Gold I might just get X3TC2.0 and save a few bucks. I haven't played X series since X2 and I have been hoping they made the combat better. I don't mind empire building but I like the combat as well 🙂 Combat was too slow for me before.

Yup some strange going on there.

Never been fan of the x games myself and I not spent a great deal of time playing x3TC as three weeks

after I got the game I found out about the Russian remake of FFE,so X3TC got slung in corner and has not been

look at since.

But I have to say From the few hours I have played the game it's a big improvement over X3Reunion.It has a much better interface and with the new Freelancer style controls I found the game to be lot more playable.

I might dig my copy out,get it patched up and have another go at it.Humm then again mabe not 😆

People that owned X3TC should be able to update to 2.0 without paying anything extra. Just will be a decent patch download obviously.

the 2.0 version will also be made available to existing owners of X3: Terran Conflict via Steam download or from the Egosoft.com website.

I would much rather see something new from Egosoft then endless boxsets. Maybe more info on the rumors of a X Universe MMO or give us a heads up on a possible X4?

I think the rumor of an mmo x game has always just been that,a rumor.

As for x4 I hope there a radically rethink of the game,I think they have milked Elite's 25

year old gameplay long enough.

I know with the base they have and the artistic talent they have they could create a epic twitch based game that would own all others on the PC. I mean the only thing that doesn't keep my interest in the X games is the combat engine and controls scheme.

I would love to see a X series RTS that used the same game style as Conflict Frontier Wars 🙂

No X3 fanboy here ❓ 😀

Now Iam not big fan of the X games but there are a couple of things I do like about the games.

One of them being size,in that the big starship and station do look and feel big and it does

manage to give space a 3d dimensional feel. When you come out of jumpgate and find the planet/stations

above or below you.And its the only game I have played which made

me feel like I was in orbit of a large planet.Even if that planet is fake and you cant land

on it,or even fly around it.

That is one of the few things I like about the X series of games is the size of the big ships and the planets, asteroids, etc.. I think scope is a huge plus for X3TC and if they would have just simplified the game a little it would have been amazing. I always thought they should have two game modes strategic/realistic (current gameplay) and arcade mode. Arcade mode puts you in a twitch style game like a FL or FS with missions and same objectives as the original just speeding it up a notch.

I have never ever actually finished a X series game. But I will load X3TC back on my machine soon and start play yet again. I would think the game should get better once I have better ships and weapons 🙂 I just have a hard time making money in that game in the beginning levels.

Same here get bored. 😆

One of the main objections I have to the X games is that you forced into haveing a fleet of

ships.Which IMO total kills the sandbox gameplay of the game,it plays more like a first

person RTS game.

Interesting..

I never really found that I was forced to have lots of ships. A really good and quite powerful one allowed me to go around being naughty most of the time. 🙂 But I did sometimes feel my interest waning when I had to go through a lot of repetative trading trips, either myself or remotely, in the X games.. Often I'd jump in the ship I had which was most appropriate and do the hauling my self alongside my drones to speed things up.... and protect them, of course!

I am interested in people's opinions on this because we are obviously working on the balance for this right now in ArcNebula. The most involved part is making the control interface usable and fun on such a small screen...

What I'd like to hear about is how much fleet strategy and how much actual FPS running and gunning people want. i.e The balance of those features..

I was lurking in game the other day when I noticed that the x3 gold boxset was out.

Which seems a bit strange as I thought they were working on a box set of all the game?. ❓

The Gold Collection has been out a little while now. They are working on the Super Box set of the X-Series. It will contain all of the X games with all the best collections of fan made additions and content built in for all games. Kind of a nice project, I just don't see why you would make a gold edition with the X3 games and then also make a Superbox set 🙂 I know $$$.
