To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

The new trailer looks really promissing. I'm glad that I pledged for this game

I've run out of superlatives, but I have 1 concern and one question for the community manager.

The concern about the footage: Althought Newtonian physics were promised, I'm not seeing enough intertia. Perhaps the ships have too little mass?

Here's my favourite space game for "feel":

http://tinyurl.com/pchhb8u

http://tinyurl.com/ppdrydg

It's called Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos, was released in 2001 and is British as well. The way player's ship flies, responds to inputs, carries inertia and angular momentum almost makes the person in control feel the G forces.

Please make sure your game is at least as good in this area...if not better.

The question: Can you give us an approximate prediction on how many expansion packs are there going to be and how much are they going to cost?

Nice 😎 😎

Cockpit looks a lot better than it did in the stills also looks like the scale and size of the ships has been adjusted.

Can never too wrong with a StarWars death star trench run even if it is inside a ship. :good:

From a Dev:

this isn't footage of anyone actually playing the game. It's all pre-scripted by animators and artists to create the cool looking sequence.

Also the decal damage textures look amazing! They look like they radiate heat for real.

Hi StarMax

That latest vid is scripted but uses the in game engine with a wee bit of post processing to enhance it a bit. The cockpit is a mock-up to serve as a place holder for the real one still in development.

Hey DiabloTigerSix,

As Cody pointed out, this video wasn't really designed to show the flight model- the animators scripted it (there's no way anyone in the office has the discipline to stay that in-formation!). So I wouldn't read much into that element of it. In fact the video's main role was as a tool to help us choose a composer for the project- you can read more about that here (I'm assuming our updates are publically viewable?)

In regards to expansion packs, it's impossible to say at this point I'm afraid. Obviously we have a lot of plans for this game post-launch and want to continue adding more depth and immersion, but how many expansions or updates that equates to is very difficult to accurately perdict this early in development. All of our focus right now is on making sure that the core game is everything our fans expect, once that is in everyone's hands we'll be able to begin sharing details on post-launch content with everyone!

Yep! All the fanbois are excited by a glimpse of what may be a Cobra Mk III - and news about in-system travel is imminent.

I don't know, maybe that looks more like a Mk 1 to me Cody or perhaps a re-imagined Gecko? Doesn't seem big enough for a Mk III, I could be wrong though.

If you're talking about the cap ship video - they be Sidewinders & Imperial Fighters - you need to study your ship ID chart :rtfm: 😀

If you look at the cap ship video on the previous page, there is a bit at about 6:30 that shows the ship I am talking about. Its the bit were they show you the Eagle also. :girlwink:

Ah, I need to read the context of a conversation before jumping in with my size twelves! Sorry 😀 - I was looking at the cinematic one, not the later one with commentary 😉

Anyway, image attached, and it's definitely a Cobra Mk III or some new variant for ED.

Dev Diary 8 is out! :girlcrazy:

And no worries Stormprooter. Still think it's a bit on the small side for a Cobbie III tho. Still, it's an early work in progress shot so lets see when they really decide to show off that iconic craft.

EDIT: Pinback! Help! The vid didn't embed properly for some reason. Can you fix my post? Pretty please?

EDIT MkII: It's ok I sorted it. :girlwacko:

Looking at the ratio of the size of the cockpit window screen to the rest of the ship, yes I agree, it does seem somewhat smaller than the ship specs from the original ELITE (130m x 30m x 65m). And not much room for a 20t cargo bay (although that would only need to be 20 cubic metres) - looks to be about 1/6 the size of the original... (20m x 5m x 10m)?? something like that?

Noticed the XBox joypad has vanished to be replaced with a joystick wonder why. :haha: but it is seriously looking good 😎 although I am still not crazy about the ship design.

Oh yes fluffy dice are a must have cockpit add on.

Also, to quote Mike Evans:

this game incentiveses pitching and rolling not yaw

Music to my ears!

Yea that sounds about right Stormprooter. To be honest though I think we are looking at a Cobbie MkI. Perhaps even the fabled MkII? Have they finally fixed the design flaw after all these years? Time will tell.

And Cody, yes I saw that quote by Mike too. It's not exactly music to my ears truth be told, but I will adapt.

@Geraldine

Could be the fabled Mk II, I don't think it's a Mk I(or a Gecko) because it's not the right shape for that, but from what I've seen in various dev videos so far, I think all the fighter class ships are somewhat smaller, to make them a bit more realistic in scale compared to the larger ships. For example, in the original ELITE, an Anaconda is 75m x 60m x 170m (approx 2 & a bit times bigger than a Cobra Mk III), yet has 37 times the cargo space - I think the ship scales have been better balanced for this game.

That is possible Stormprooter. We will know more once we get our mitts on the Alpha & Betas. Goodness, it's not far now by the way! :girlcrazy:

Trying to decide what I am going to try first. I guess I will see what scenarios FD set up for the Alphas. With regards to the Betas, they should be much closer to the good old sandbox galaxy we all know and love.

Just....a.....bit....further.......to.......go :girlsigh:
