To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Replacement Quality Quartet music & classical pieces

When I played glFFE a couple of years ago I downloaded some high quality versions of the Quality Quartet music tracks for FFE. Since the FFED3D package only has mp3 copies of the original FM-synthesized midis, I have overwritten them with these higher quality wavetable versions that sound much better. Thought I'd share them with the FFED3D community so I have uploaded them here.

I have now also uploaded proper orchestral versions of the classical music pieces here.

EDIT:

In my experience, FFED3D doesn't seem to play music during battles or docking, unless you actually put mp3s in the relevant custom music folders. So I recommend putting bluedan.mp3 in the the music\custom\docking folder to get that 2001: A Space Odyssey feeling whenever you dock at an orbital city! 🙂

I think babayaga.mp3, barem.mp3 and qqrock.mp3 are well suited to battles so you could put them in the battles folder (or whatever music gets your juices flowing!)

i recommend the link above, but you have to register to depositfiles first to do so 😯

facts: holst composed this music after he was throwing an eye through herschels new giant telescope 😉

Absolutely love The Planets. My favorite is probably Mars: Bringer of War but every one is an inspired work. Question...am kind of a newbie to this so forgive me but what does 'glFFE' stand for?

It stands of the OpenGL version of JJFFE, which I believe was the first attempt to bring FFE into a higher resolution above 640X480.

JJFFE stands for John Jordan FFE.

John Jordan was one of the first people to take the original FFE code and adapt it to a directX API ( or so I understand). He basically took the DOS code and made it Windoze compatible and fixed most of the major bugs that were left in the commercial release.

Pretty much every mod or update of FFE is based off of JJFFE code.
