To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I recall that game Pinback. I never completed it either. Very tough game, I think I got half way through until I met a T-Rex and couldn't get past it. The game is available on GOG along with it's sequel Deus (without the EX <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_lol.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> )
Both Robinsons Requiem and Deus are INCREDIBLY difficult, made worse by having their fair share of bugs. This is a shame because the premise of having to survive in a hostile alien environment is one that's amazingly compelling, and is tackled so rarely in gaming (is suspect chiefly because it's so hard to get right). I tend to go back to them now and again to have another bash but struggle to get anywhere before I die.
Interesting that Precursors reminds you of that, Pinback. I'm playing Fallout 3 right now and am getting a similar vibe from that, too, what with the ability to have your extremities crippled and to become addicted to various chemical compounds.
Axeman, that's absolutely what early computing was like. A Bold New Frontier, where every new piece of software of hardware expanded the capabilities of what computing as a whole could offer to the human experience. For enthusiasts like you and I, software like lightwave did feel very much like being granted a new power, a new string to our bow. I remember getting my first copy of Knife ST (I was an avid Atari user so watch what you say about the power of that machine....! :D), a piece of software designed to look into programs and files directories at a much lower level than I'd ever seen and feeling like I'd been given the keys to reality itself! Of course in practical terms I barely found a need to use it but I never forgot how it pleased me to have it. 🙂

You hit the nail right on the head there Stardreamer, its the same with Precursors as you can become addicted to drugs and alcohol and the more hit you take to the body and limbs the less mobility you have.
Never kew there was a sequal to Robinsons Requiem, speaking of the more unusal game B.A.T was another one, again I don't remember getting that far into it,but I seem to recall that there was a lot freedom of actions in the game.
Another game I recall was a precursor to the mighty System Shock, Cybercon III. Another very tough game
Absolutely. That and Core Design's "Corporation" were definite precursors to the legendary System Shock. I recall Corporation even had hidden PSI powers in-game (that they only hinted at in the manual - you had to work out how to access them!) and had the unique selling point that if you posted the publishers a photo of your face they'd send you a 3D model of it for use in the character selection stage! Of course these were back in the days of low poly-counts but what a fantastic idea! I never did it but the desire to do so stuck with me for aaages . 😀
Really? I've been tracking Precursors for a while...now I'm even more keen to take a crack at it!

Just remember Stardreamer that game is very much unfinshed.
Liberation is another one.Never got far with the game as I think it only works on CD32,but Iam suprised to learn that there was a functional city within the game,as I had always dismissed it as just another dungon master clone.
For those who might be interested in buying/replacing Amiga hardware there is Amibay. Its a very friendly site full of technomages and tons of Amiga goodies for sale, here is a link http://www.amibay.com/
For general advice and a high technomage count, another great site is The English Amiga Board, here is a link http://eab.abime.net/
For gaming advice covering all of Commodore's creations there is Lemon Amiga, here http://www.lemonamiga.com/
I just found that Vitualdub will play Amiga animations and convert them to AVI on the PC, well it nearly plays all of mine one of then is still rendering in the wrong colour mode. 😀 😀 At last I can add sound effects to them.
Ok, calling all you Amiga owners from the past, present (and future?) There is a massive survey going on to find the 100 greatest Amiga games of all time. Dont worry you don't have to pick 100 (although for some of us that would be easy,...ahem <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_redface.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> ), you just have to pick 10. Then after a bit they will collate all the lists into a final top 100. If you would like to take part here is a link http://survey.classi...x.php?sid=16557
More about the survey itself can be found here http://www.amibay.co...read.php?t=4668
1000s of people have already voted so it should be some list once it's completed. Not that I would try to sway your vote or anything, but it would be nice to see a space sim right up there at the top, here's hoping <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Voted 😀
theres Amiga guess the pic quiz here http://recordedamigagames.ath.cx/theult ... gaquiz.php

16340! <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_cool.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='8-)' />
Oh, you thought of that!
did someone here actually try playing a small game by the name of calephar?
It so happens I was the one to secure the disk from visual impact (only the demo was out, and due to financial difficulties the full version never left the company's archive), and with permission from the programmer and assistance from the scene, dumped the disk.
This was the very first prototype I ever preserved! 🙂
good days indeed!
I never played that game Starlord, (although I did play Starlord alot, loved that game <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> ), but anyways well done to you for saving a piece of Amiga gaming history! <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_cool.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='8-)' />
Those weird Singleton games 😀 Fine games a mess of an interface (Even though I managed to beat Midwinter).
You beat Midwinter? Kudos, CaptainKal - that's no mean feat! I only ever beat midwinter II once, and that was only after I learned (from a magazine, naturally) the three key islands to liberate to thwart the incoming invasion.
Yea the Midwinter games were good. I herd back in the day, that in the first game, if you rounded up as much explosives as you could find at the start, you just headed for the enemy base and blew it sky high, game completed. I never tried that though, must give it a go! <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_smile.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> How on earth did I remember that? <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//icon_e_confused.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':?' />
Hints & Tips for Midwinter
1. Play it in easy 😀 😀 😀 😀 (No Bombers , and no Mortars that way).
2. When you first meet the enemy forces, run like hell. Your are way too outnumbered.
3. The enemy is advancing using 3 or 4 columns. If you destroy all the gas stations, before the advancing colums eventually the enemy will stop to a halt. (You can also destroy the enemie's fuel supply line).
4. When you see that the enemy has halted its advance, grab some explosives and a snowmobile , flank the enemy, head to the enemy HQ, and blow them to pieces. 🙂 🙂
Tactics: When you hear the enemy missile coming, start making circles without moving (really!! most of the times the
missile will miss). Recruit as many people you can. Even kids. (Even a kid with a snow mobile can cause the enemy damage).
Which islands do you have to liberate? Midwinter II was far better game than Midwinter I in my opinion. (And I have still not played "Starlord" and "Ashes of the Empire. I still have all the boxed versions of the 16bit Singleton games").
Some games stay with you for a long long time. 😀 😀 😀
Hostile Breed game been found and uploaded to. http://agtw.abime.net/games/view/hostilebreed
Looks pretty good from the screen shot will be having a go over the weekend with this. 😀
Years later, like many others, I was left wondering what had happened to Hostile Breed. I still hadn't played the game although its non-appearance seemed to have something to do with the publisher Palace's demise. In fact, Palace's problems were exactly why Hostile Breed remained unpublished. French company Titus bought Palace but unhappily the game failed to find a publisher there either.
That wasn't the end of the story though, as programmer Rob Stevens had always retained the final master on Amiga floppy disks. Your Amiga Games That Weren't researcher (Adrian) finally tracked down Rob one day and was subsequently in receipt of three floppy disks.
The first task was to create raw disk images for the Software Preservation Society (SPS). István Fábián analysed these raw dumps and found them to be free of errors and so were suitable for transformation into IPFs. The ADFs on this page have been created from the IPFs.
Amiga Games That Weren't presents the full version of Hostile Breed along with interviews with its programmer Rob Stevens and graphical artist Joe Walker. Many thanks are due to Rob and Joe for allowing their hard work to be finally released.
Good find Pinback and even better if your going to fire up your miggy to play it! <img src="' http://spacesimcentral.com/forum/public/style_emoticons//wink3.gi f"' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
Now that's a temptation 🙂 . Good find Pinback. And speaking of different Amiga games, has any of the old timers here, ever played "Exodus 3010"?
