To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hunting for info on what is recent and interesting regarding space com sims I sort of landed here. Finally a place for for "crazy pilots" like us to gather. Back in the day when a bunch of freaks... er friends and I would hang at the computer lab in the nearby university to fly around in X-wings and shoot at each other silly, my fellow pilots have always called me Wildshot. I really don't know why but maybe it was cuz I would always gun-ho or maybe it was that one wild stunt I pulled once while shooting a star destroyer, I must have said something "here goes a wild shot" or something.

Anyway, I've always loved the idea of a rocked with a pair of peashooters and a pilot strapped on with an itchy trigger finger taking out some huge thing against crazy odds. I miss my wingmates but wtf... games have come and gone but I bet they are all dusting their joysticks once in a while just like me. Guess there isn't one of you that hasn't gone to a sci-fi flick these days and wished they would make space battles like they used to back in the 70s and 80s.

Well about the games themselves.

I love Wing Commander, awesome story... I miss it. The whole XWING series was cool, it was simple and would not distract one from the action, and It runs on that old "build-from-scraps-PC" some of us have gathering dust in some corner or attic. Freelancer is almost superb, but my tennis elbow is as bad as it is cuz of it, wish I could have used a gamepad or joystick. Starlancer, Freespace and Independence War are real good, while the X series is just too much for me. I got my hands on Darkstar One the other day, but my HDD was sort of full and so I went to get another one. I prefer to keep my drive for games separate from my os hdd or my regular use hdd, extends the lifespan of the disks... In any case my favorite COMBAT Space Sim of all time will always be Tachyon, simply cuz of Bruce Campbell! Well not really, I liked how intuitive it was and the whole sliding feature which in my mind was so much like what the Babylon 5 fighters would do i just loved it. Got to get to the gate but there is a bug taking popshot behind you? No prob, just swing like a turret and ride the momentum while turning the bastard to motes!

Well everyone, if you are ever in my sector or just want to say "hi", my hailing frequencies are always open!

Good luck and good hunting!

Wildshot!

That is a tough game wildshot, I think you will like it. 🙂 Also did you know there is a pre-equal to the game too? It's called Dark Horizon.
