To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hi everyone!

I'm overjoyed by the fact that this website exists. After digging around on Google for those little hidden gems of sci-fi games that I don't hear about on other sites, I came across SpaceSimCentral. It's great to know there's an entire site here dedicated to my favorite type of game!

About me... well, I've been obsessed with sci fi ever since I was introduced to Star Trek. And my first sci fi game... well, that would have to be Conquest Frontier Wars. Yea, that was a long time ago. Still play it though, I still find it one of the best space strategy games ever made. I didn't want to stop at just playing them, however.

I got into game development about two years ago, but I had been messing about with things such as RPG Maker before that. I mainly use Construct, which I'm sure many are familiar with, as I haven't yet learned coding. I'm getting there though. I started a group known as Technical Byte Games, and my main title that I have been working on for about a year now is called Epic Universe. It is a top down open ended sandbox space game, which has gone through... many, many reincarnations as I learn new skills with Construct.

I'm looking forward to having a part in this fantastic community!

Hi TechnicalBYTE

Glad you finally found your way here, I guess I do a good job at keeping SSC a secret πŸ™‚

Conquest Frontier Wars is a great RTS and it is a shame that there was never a sequel and or the modding community take control because it is a fun game and Feverpitch Studios (believe it was them) did a good job on it. I think I am in the same boat you are with trying to learn something and not really knowing how to code yet. I have dabled with UDK, Construct and just downloaded CryEngine to play with. I just wish I had more time in the day.

Welcome aboard and I am still trying to work on the site layout slowly in my free time so bare with me.

Wowzers- thanks for the awesome welcome guys!

If anyone really cares- I've been working on a top down arcade open world space sim for awhile, and when it get's to a reasonable stage I was going to post it on these forums, see what people think. It's not a super high quality game though... and it's built with Construct, so yeah. πŸ˜€

I have been really interested in Construct and really want to see what it can do and if it has the features to give people a quality experience without too much manual coding so please do post your efforts when you think it is ready and as always if you need a forum for your game and your development is serious just let me know and you shall have one.

Thanks DarkOne! Construct doesn't actually need any coding whatsoever, and it is capable of some extremely detailed and powerful games. If you look through their Creations section of their forums you will find some real jewels there. Of course, I'm just a beginner, and I'm still working on the graphics and AI side of everything. πŸ˜› Personally though I would get Construct 1.2, not the actual Construct 2, because it uses Direct X 9 and is finished, mostly bug free and doesn't cost money.

Epic Universe... well, I'm serious about it's development, but I don't think it's ready for it's own forum yet. It's gone through many, many reincarnations since I started game development. It's last one can still be found here:

http://techbytegames.yolasite.com/epic-universe.php

I kind of made it sound far better than it was. I had high hopes... πŸ˜› that version was buggy and I gave up quickly. I've started a new version, which is actually working and I have all the kinks ironed out. There's some small shots here... I'm not sure if it's the right place to put them, but just to show what I mean:

Yeah... I only just started working on the HUD. It's not really playable... but once it gets to a decent stage, I'll make a thread about it! πŸ˜€

HUD looks decent and if I remember Construct is it restricted to the lower screen resolutions? But overall this is great just because your basics are there and you can always work on visuals once you have the AI and gameplay to where you want it since that will probably be most your efforts because Construct uses that event system.
