To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

I've been playing off and on for about two weeks. "EVE-lite for browsers" is a real good description.

It's 2D, top down. The planets are background objects, only the stations, asteroids, and other ships matter. There are lots of NPC bot-ships to kill, and lots of rocks to mine.

It's still in an open-beta phase. There are a lot of small details clearly unfinished, but the core gameplay works great. Mining is entertaining, oddly enough. Maybe that's just me. I mined in EVE, and I mined in Jumpgate, and I liked it.

The combat is a lot like EVE as well. Click the target, activate your weapons, and wait 'till they die. Fly around to stay in range (or run, if you are behind the curve and taking more than you are giving). You can't really dodge or do much to protect yourself besides choosing your target/victim with some care.

Mining in more abundant zones is fun because the bots there are brutal - way too tough for the starter ship most everyone is still using. There's a real challenge slipping in, mining a bit, and scooting out before the bots get weapons lock and annihilate you. You have to be smart and careful... and patient. There's a lot of mining involved in trying to get a better ship.

Nearly everywhere is a PvP zone, but it's controlled by ship class in many places, so you aren't going to be randomly pounded by some guy who has a bigger ship. I'm generally peaceable, but I really haven't been hassled at all; most people seem to be friendly.

There are two "factions"; but chat is global. The two sides talk and offer suggestions freely; I haven't seen much evidence of warfare, but that's probably because most people are just finding the game and getting started. Note that you can be attacked by members of your own faction; I've only seen a member of the other side once, deep in neutral space. We were both mining (of course) and left each other alone.

Overall the gameplay is surprisingly fun for its simplicity. It's super-easy to get into, that's for sure.
