To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

looking for game

HI.

I'm looking for space-based game to play next. Played some X series, Aurora, Master of Orion 3 (if it had better production ques, either to put in more then 3 items or make custom template that can be set for planet...that would be couple times better game than it is), lately Transcendence (if there were much more systems, and i mean much more).

What i'm looking for:

- huge number of sectors/systems - more = better, because i'm not looking for something short

- preferably randomly generated systems - just to makes things interesting when finally will come time to play again.

- Either strategy or sim - for strategy i'm looking for something in lines of moo3 (travel between systems via startrails/stargates, turn-based) with good que management. But i'm looking for it for quite some time and still can't fins it. FreeOrion was close, but still not close enough. As goes for sim, can be 2d, or 3d, but something better then X series (after setting up profitable traders/set of producing stations game becomes too easy), preferably something with good combat system

Well I am completely stump when it comes to the 4X games and the only sim type games I can think off hand which may fit in with your wants are all still in Alpha ie Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous.

You could try Vendetta Online; I've been playing it for more than a decade and have found it to be pretty satisfying.  If you send me a /msg in game and we meet up I'll send you a free gift of 25,000 credits and a unique weapon (an offer I've thought up for new players).

Vendetta has over 7,000 sectors, most of which feature procedural generation, and will likely be expanding its galaxy in the near future.  Vendetta's manufacturing economy has also been ramping up, with more and more players getting in the game of gathering resources for capital ship and station sub-components.

I've also spent a fair amount of time contributing mission content to the early-mid game, so if you do end up checking it out I'll be interested to read what you think of the experience.

Sword of the Stars if you play as humans or Zuul. First is quite good if you get Complete, second i still quite bad.

For strategy you have several options.

Galactic Civilizations 2 with all the expansions is a great choice. You get your massive universe, an intricate ship designer and good comfort functionality, but it doesn't have starlanes.

If you liked Moo3, then take a look at Moo2, it's a far better game, though the galaxy size is not that massive.

Sins of a Solar Empire is an RTS with starlanes, it's not really a 4x, but you can play on decently sized maps (about 100 locations) and build large fleets.

Sword of the Stars, as mentioned before, is an option as well, though personally I don't like those games.

With Sims you are more limited, the X series is pretty much the best you can get in terms of universe size and options.

You might want to take a look at Freelancer, Tachyon: The Fringe, Darkstar One, Starpoint Gemini and Galaxy on Fire 2 HD; those are 3D Space sims with good combat systems (which is the main focus), however they are missing the in-depth economy of X and are smaller.

There is also Evochron: Mercernary, haven't played it, but I've heard it's very large and very complex.

2D options would be Space Pirates vs Zombies, which does offer a large universe, but it's not everybodies cup of tea; as well as Drox Operative, which is an Action-RPG with randomly generated sectors.

Apart from those and the already mentioned Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous, which are at least a year away, the only which comes to mind is EVE Online.

Thx for all options, i will try them for sure.

And in case of X series, true that series are pretty much best sim. I had in mind better as in harder, not that easy to become overlord, or better 3d graphics. Like i said, in X series you need just few stations to make nice profit that makes things easy (or not even that with addition of stock market, not to mention combining those two)  -> own maxed out ship -> own battle fleet -> and then all comes to watching as that fleet destroys everything in it's path system by system just because you can 😛
