To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Wouldn't it be easier to just design three separate ships? You could even label them as Panther derivatives if you like. Personally, I consider the Panther Clipper to be a bit of an icon. I'm sure everybody here who played Frontier more than a little would have flown a Panther, and would have gone through the tedium of assembling a crew for it. You might come across some popular resistance.

I did eventually plan on making a better Panther Clipper, hence why the one we currently have was named the Panther Trader... I was planning on jazzing it up some and then calling that version the Clipper.

But I'm easy, its up to you guys...

Ey, guys, focus.

The conversation is about the aerodynamical flight of the ships.. And the convenience of adopting a surface flight model 🙂

surface flight mode, well the current one is easy enough to do. Would require changes to the autopilot etc, the original idea of the thread is the modular starport - how about 3 new classes of "storage sheds" small medium and large and may eventually be player placeable for some colony or storage modules

The original idea of the thread is the modular city idea.

Ok let´s Speak about The original idea of the thread as it was "until now". I am sorry.

Ollobrain, you seem to be consistently asking for some sort of empire building feature to be built into Pioneer. That wasn't part of Frontier, but it is an interesting idea. When you look at the ideas expressed here...

...it doesn't seem too far fetched. 🙂

This aerodynamics business is riveting and all, but now the modular city idea seems to have taken a back seat. This saddens me greatly 😥 😥 😥 Does anyone have any further thoughts on it because those example pics are the stuff that geek dreams are made of.

nah i like the pics, the nature of pioneer development seems to be contributors contribute what they feel they can. If something else is focused on now and something else later thats fine. The city idea is good but may take some time to flush out

The city idea is a nice idea, and it is something that I've been tinkering with (unfortunately work has gotten in the way lately).

Don't be saddened that it has taken a back seat, it hasn't been forgotten. There are just a few other challenges that need to be dealt with first (like the flatter terrain near cities, etc).

That's the beauty of open source.. someone comes up with an idea.. and another one goes 'here is some code' for it..

Sadly, there is more of the former than the later (not that that is a bad thing either! )
