To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Pioneer idea about atmospheres

(@zephyros)
Eminent Member

Hi all

My idea for the game is when you enter the atmosphere of a planet you should see heat and dust from the point you coming in depending of how dense is the air and also it should slow down your ship or destroy it if you go too fast for the ship structural integrity to handle. I know I know its a bit hard to do it but its just my idea to make it a bit realistic and interesting.

Also why is Earth in a ice age?

PS love the game 😀

The latest alpha was given a christmas theme, thus the snow everywhere. The next alpha should have normal terrain.

Entering an atmosphere does slow you down and heat up your ship. If it gets too hot it will be destroyed. If your ship doesn't have atmospheric shields that will happen much quicker.

Also of note, I've written the shader versions showing heating on the atmospherically heated entry side, I just haven't ported it over to Pioneer yet due to a new job 🙂

I remember that I liked the slalom in the clouds of Ross 154 and fly over the domes of "Sirocco station"

With a name like Uruboros I just have to say hi 🙂

So hello fellow red-dwarf fanatic 😉

Edit// Just in-case Uroboros actually does not refer to Red-Dwarf (Probably as I just noticed its spelt differently), this is what Im babbling about:

Quote:
"Ouroboros" is the third episode of science fiction sitcom Red Dwarf Series VII and the 39th in the series run.

This episode opens with a flashback to the Aigburth Arms pub, in Liverpool, 2155, where we see a baby being discovered by a man named Frank under the pool table. On the cardboard box in which he is found is written "Ourob oros": the barmaid present deplores the fact that his unknown parents couldn't even decide what name to give him, marking on the box "our Rob or Ross". The barmaid declares

Its the episode where we discover that Lister is a victim of the Grandfather paradox, where he is in-fact his own father 😉

Quote:
Lister is in fact his own father, shown in the episode "Ouroboros" when he fills up a test tube for Kochanski, and then realises after seeing a battery box with an "Ouroboros" logo, that he in fact is the baby in the test tube.

It's true 😀 nothing complicated about it though, you or Loumu could probably knock it up in 5 mins.

Now then, doing flaming particle trails off the ship emitting from only the hottest edge... that'll be hard! 😕

 Hey! devo cambiare nick?

lol: Hey! I have to change nicks?

But a lot of fun! I only watch the TV off.

uruboros the ouroboros, or for me, it's just an ancient symbol of Indo-European!

let's say ...... I tell you my new nickname? : lol:

Ps frontier in interplanetary flight was the option to see the dust, which helped to understand the direction in which we proceeded!

I hope (despite the nickname) to contribute in some way and Pioneer forum! THX!

Hey. There is no problem with your nickname. In England we have a television program called Red-Dwarf (As to say, red dwarf, as the star) and there's a joke about Ouroboros. I saw your nickname and I thought you know this program, it does not matter:)

My avatar is an image from the television program. 🙂

The team has talked about adding space dust for interplanetary flight. But we thought that its not very realistic. Thus we might make some equipment to simulate the dust. 🙂
