To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Beyond The Red Line/ Diaspora - BSG Mods

Hello everyone! I'm new to the community, yet after some searching, I was surprised to see that there was nothing on the site about a certain mod. So, for my first post I thought I'd show off two awesome looking stand-alone mods for Freespace 2 based off of the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. 😀

EDIT* So I did see a thread about Diaspora... Hehe, whoops, but theres still the BTRL demo!

First off there's Beyond The Red Line.

The mod has been in development for awhile, but they did release a demo (in 2007), and it's tons of fun. In fact the demo recieved tons of publicity, magazine covers, articles, best mod awards, all kinds of stuff. I was following this mod from late 2008 to early 2009, but the team split due to "creative differences". After the split the BTRL team didn't show many updates to it's followers, yet the team insisted the mod was still in development. To me it seemed they spent more time telling their followers the project wasn't dead, than actually developing, but that's not for me to say. 😕

Here's a passage from the release of the demo:

"We thought we were saved. A week after the Nuclear Holocaust our rag-tag fleet of civilian ships, led by the captain of the Scylla, wandered aimlessly through space. When the Base ship appeared, most of us were resigned to our fate.

But then, appearing like a savior from the Gods themselves, a lone battlestar pounded through the Cylons’ defenses. We cheered the arrival of Battlestar Pegasus; her crew had saved us. Or so we thought... Death at the mechanical hands of the Cylons would have been better.

Drafted and pressed into service, your only hope of survival is to fall in line and train to join the ranks of the elite Viper pilots of Battlestar Pegasus. Get a taste of the action that awaits you in the upcoming main campaign with intense single- and multiplayer missions. Will you become one of Pegasus’ elite, or will you give your life in the vast, cold battleground of deep space?"

Yeah, the video is a tad bit old, but no one makes videos for it anymore!

Here's a link to the main site and the Demo download page:

The demo includes 3 single-player missions with multiple voiced outcomes and Multiplayer matches. ( I'd love to try Multiplayer, but the community is long gone. ) :[

Sadly the BTRL forums hosted at Game-Warden.com, closed in August of this year, due to lack of updates and the split of the team. The team insists the project continues!

Then there's Diaspora.

Diaspora is offspring of the split of BTRL, as a majority of the team moved to this project. I haven't been keeping up with this as much as I'd like to, but everything seems to be moving along smoothly! 🙂

Old, yet progress is still being made on it.

And here's the link to their home page and forums:

Hope you guys like this mod and check it out!

By the way, DarkOne, I love the site, I discovered Naumachia: Space Warfare and I must say it looks stunning!

Shame about the BTRL team splitting up,played the demo of it a couple of years ago when I had a proper computer. It was a far better BSG game than any of the commercial efforts.

I just saw the edit but I have posted some things for BTRL and Diaspora:

Yeah, I emailed those BTRL guys a few months ago and I got a similar response. On Diaspora I hope this project does keep moving along because it is looking promising. I haven't covered all the FS2 mods but I have mentioned all the standalone FSO projects like Diaspora and WC Saga, etc.

Stay tuned, because I have a nice Q&A coming from the devs 😉
