To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Hey DarkStarOne Fans....
This is probably old news to most of you but if you haven't tried this game out you should. And after you get it all loaded up and before you play you should install this patch. The patch below is a combination of all officially released patches to date.
Download: DS1 Patch v1.3 for US and EU
Patch Notes:
Added features:
- Added modding feature, optimimized since patch v1.2 beta.
- Added a new icon "Darkstar One (modding)" to the Windows start menu. It will launch the game with low processing priority and access to the WebInterface to allow modding. For normal play please use the usual "Darkstar One" icon.
- Mission script pages of the WebInterface now available. DSO has to be started with "modding" (see above). The WebInterface can be accessed with any browser by typing "//localhost:54321".
- Optimized the generation of random missions: random missions are now triggered more often.
- Added more random missions
Fixes:
- In one of the random missions a crash could occur very rarely. This is fixed now.
- In the first tunnel mission a block could occur very rarely. This is fixed now.
- Balanced the flak missions: The current level of the player's ship now determines the strength of the drones.
- Several optimizations regarding the tunnel missions
- Several optimizations regarding interface and controls
- Several optimizations regarding event management
- Several Optimizations regarding numerous mission scripts
Some other fixes you can try if you are still having issues are:
DS1 Copy Protection Driver Update
Have fun playing DarkStar One. Have some mods for the game? Make sure you post them in our mods section.
Well after trying in several different places and websites to gain access to the Darkstar One forums I think they are officially down for good 🙁 It's a shame because there was some good info on those boards about the game. I will try to find more info and post it when I find some. I have at least the files in the download area and I was able to grab a few mods before the dev/publisher forums for DS1 went down.
I know Ascaron was in some financial trouble and maybe that is the reason. But please if you have any DarkStar One info or mods for DS1 please post it.
you wouldn't happen to have the ds_ptach.zip would you i had it but lost it in a crash and as they have shut the servers down i can't get it again
I believe I have all the relevant patches for DSO in the download area.
Patch 1.3 is the latest and contains all fixes from previous patches.
I just uploaded this: X-Axis Joystick Fix
and the Nvidia fix was already there: DS1 Nvidia Hotfix
Looks like Ascaron has gone bust.
Yeah I know there website has been down for DSO for almost two months now. If I would have known that was coming I would have parsed their forums for any good info or mod files. Guess that info is lost for good 🙁
Thanks Yamo, I have that in the download area already.
Honestly I do not like this game at all. I looked at it as being "Freelancer 2" but instead it was something much worse than Freelancer 1. As for Ascaron, if they gone bust indeed, well that's sad, cause they sure made a few awesome games and I mean awesome.
What Ascaron didn't do was really support the modding community. If they would have done that the modders would have fixed game flaws and expanded the game. They didn't do that the same with JoWood and SpaceForce. So now those two games are almost forgotten, FS and FL longevity has been great and a good portion of that success is the modding community. i bet MSoft regrets not creating FL2 and maybe they will make another if all these other space games that are coming have some success.

Dunno why when I read that part of your post only one word came in my mind: "Godfather" 😆
Please excuse my ignorance, but how do i install the Nvidia fix?
Just extract it to your game directory. I would make sure first that DSO is indeed at version 1.3. Make sure your DX9 and gfx drivers are uo to date.
You might be interested in this thread as well if your using Vista/Win7
Yes, its 1.03 and my drivers are up to date. I'm still using WinXP but i intend to switch to Win7, so thank you for the guidance.
I don't have my DarkStar One DVD anymore. But on those DLL files have you tried to find newer versions of them online? Maybe list them here and try that link that I post a few posts up. It is a forum thread that talks about Vista and Win7 as well.
Wonder if it could be the newer graphics card drivers? I have known of games not liking newer graphics drivers. Have you tried the steam forums for DSO ( http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/f ... .php?f=358)?
Try playing with different resolutions as well. Because some older games have issues with the higher resolutions.
Darkstar One is NOT compatible with x64bit systems. And there is an unresolved bug with the 1680x1050 resolution and ATI cards. (I had to create a custom resolution with Riva Tuner 1680x1048, to play it in my native resolution).
Aitor, will the game play in a window instead of fullscreen mode? This could be worth a try?
I had the same problem with the shaking background(win Xp 32) AFTER i upgraded to 1.3. I managed to fix it after i applied the nvidia fix and reinstalled the 1.3 patch several times 😆 . If you ask me , i guess it was pure chance, so i can't tell you exactly what to do. I only hope it will work out for you too. Oh, there is another thing. Searching for a fix i found out this solution "Copy IPHLPAPI.DLL and netman.dll from your windows System32 folder into the Darkstar One folder". But i think after that i had to reinstall the 1.3 patch so its kinda blurry in my mind what worked back then. I hope this will help, sort of. Hmm, actually the solution with the dll's was given me on this forum. It's a link submitted by Darkone when i asked for help.
