To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Older spaceship 3D shooting game

Good day to everyone.

I'm looking for a name of one older spaceship shooting 3D game.

I played only demo where you've got I think two spaceships and few missions like destroying enemy fighters or escorting cargoship.

I'm not sure but I think, that travelling to fighting regions was throught some warp gate and than you can return to hangar of your base or mothership, I don't know.

It was like 10 - 15 years ago, not sure and had very good graphic.

Main think I remmember was radio sentence after finishing the mission either "Your mama waits home." or "My mama waits home.", something like that.

EDIT:

If nobody noticed, english is not my native language and at the time I was playing this game I didn't know english very well. So now that I find out what game it is and played few missions the correct sentence was "I'm on my way home.". 😀

Yeah, yeah, everybody keep laughting. (As was I when I heared now what he is originaly saying.)

And you were sitting inside of the cocpit.

I was going throught hundreds of Google image search pages but didn't find this one.

So if you can think of any game that can be this one please send me gameplay image or name of the game.

Thank you very much.

There is one very obscure and very underrated game which I'm always looking for an excuse to mention and which fits your vague description (aside possibly from that specific line of dialogue) and that's Terminus.  Of course, the chances of that actually being the game is low, but I suppose it's possible.  Anyway, it was always one of my favorites, and nobody seems to remember it.  This game is VERY hard to find these days, I still have a disc somewhere...

Another possibility is Tachyon: The Fringe (although I don't think there were gates...).  This was a very charming game that came out about a year after Freespace 2, and if memory serves was comparable in quality.  It wasn't TOO special but there are few enough space games, and this one came out right as the genre was dying.  Fortunately, it's available on Steam.

Lastly, I suppose it could have been Independence War 2, in fact, the dialogue you quoted definitely sounds like something that would have been in that game (although there were definitely no gates).  I've recently been reminded of the fact that this was probably the single best space flight simulator ever made.  (So if any Elite fanboys tell you realistic physics is no good you can proudly point to it, and they will ignore you.)  Anyway, it's available on GOG http://www.gog.com/game/independence_war_2

I don't recall there was warp gates in I-War 2 until late-game so the only choice left are either Terminus or Tachyon.

If you remember there was Bruce Campbell's voice then it's Tachyon.

I'm sorry ExpandingMan, but it is not Terminus. 🙁

But lucky for me it is Tachyon: The Fringe. 🙂

Thank you MV2000 for the video, at 3:47 when I saw inside of cocpit, that blue-circle-glowing warp gate and her voice I knew this is the one. Then the shooting sound and that big base with those open "hangars" like in 4:45.

It's like I was 15 again. 😀

Now just how to get it. 😉

Thank you very much everybody, again.

Oh cool, figured there was a really small chance I'd actually hit on it.

You can buy Tachyon: The Fringe on Steam (it's not on GOG).

Also, if you like Tachyon, and don't know about Freespace 2, you might want to try it.  I suspect Tachyon was trying to copy it.  Both are fun, but Freespace is more well-known and the flight model is a bit better.

I already got Tachyon: The Fringe from Steam, thanks.

Just from some videos and pictures it is obvious, that these two games look similar.

Maybe after Tachyon I will give Freespace 2 a chance.

I really liked Tachyon - a one off, mostly forgotten, but very entertaining space sim.

Also, although I'm ashamed to admit it, I thought the mission voiceover woman for the corporate faction (can't remember what it was called) had THE HOTTEST voice in all gamerdom 😀 I could have listened to her for hours! How adolescent of me 😀

It's Freespace that gives chance you!

Also, start with 1, then go to modded 2.

I actually have the CD-ROM version of Tachyon, but I couldn't really get into the controls for it.  The keyboard / mouse setup was extremely clunky, and my Dualshock-style USB pad was completely inept for it.
