To all SSC Station occupants
Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.
Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Kickstarter for a game which described itself as FTL meets Lego more details on Kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1818335618/solar-storm Looking for £30k, also has a demo to download.

FTL meets Lego in this space rogue-alike adventure game! Play our free, standalone demo.
In the near future, humanity has expanded into the Solar system. But this expansion through space is threatened by relentless Solar Storms. These interstellar hurricanes of tremendous power destroy ships and lives every time they strike.
So humanity built a new, experimental spacecraft to try and calm the solar storms. They called it what it was: the STS Hope. But when the first solar storm struck it, the Hope vanished into the depths of space.
Now, a decade later, she has been detected within the asteroid belt, powerless, damaged and drifting.
So build a ship, fly to the asteroid belt, and try to bring her home.
Features
Build a ship - For the first time in a space rogue-alike, players start the game by constructing their own ship. Use parts in any configuration you like. Build a gunboat, bristling with weaponry. Build a graceful explorer or a pared-down speed demon. Build whatever ship that you think will get you there and home again.
Evolve and rebuild as you play – Each section of Solar Storm will present new challenges to your ship, requiring the design and function of the ship to change as the game continues. Adapt and evolve your design to the ever-changing challenge of survival in the cold depths of space.

Anyone try the demo? I got to about 200 meg then lost the connection as they are asking for opinions.
Hi, Kieran here. I'm the creative lead on the Solar Storm project.
Firstly, a massive thank you for being the first people to back us - it means a lot to get off the mark, and take those first footsteps towards, hopefully, success.
But we need your help with something else, too. By now, we're hoping you've played the STS-96 demo and enjoyed it. That's really useful to us as we try and get our message out in the wider world.
If you have any comments about the demo, please leave them in the replies to this update, especially if you have a one-line review we can publish. We will be using positive comments for our marketing, but we'll certainly make them anonymous if you ask us to.
Thanks again for backing us.
Kieran
They could do with doing some more updates for the game.
Not going well for solar storm only 17 days left but £555 pledge so far.
Hi there, Solar Storm Team here.
So, it seems pretty clear that we are struggling to get the message out at the moment. This is pretty frustrating, because when we managed to get people playing - they really enjoy Solar Storm!
Check out what the Average giants had to say about our game on their podcast, when they got to play an hour of Solar Storm with me offering a few hints (Solar Storms sections starts about 1hr 08mins in.)
So, if you think your friends will enjoy this as much as they did, share the video and tell them - the more people we get playing Solar Storm, the bigger the chance we'll have to make it in the end.
Thank you to all our lovely backers so far, we'll get there 🙂
Need to do far more update rather than waiting for the game site to post about them.
Looks likes solar storm a bust as it still go 8 days to go but it's no where near the it's target goal of £30k, again a Kickstarter with not enough updates.
Just not enough updates on Kickstarter and maybe relying too much on social media.
Hi, Solar Storm team here.
So, we didn't make it.
Nonetheless, the whole team want to thank you to everyone for the support you gave us throughout our first crowd-funding drive. It was great to see that, while Solar Storm wasn't as popular as we might have hoped, it struck a chord with enough people to get some funding. Thank you to each and every one of our backers.
What we're going to do now is go away and consider our options. We're a small team and we've learnt a huge amount from the creation of Solar Storm and this whole Kickstarter process. We've now got a much, much better idea of what we are doing! Whatever we create next is going to be really, really cool.
We're also going to stay in touch. We're not quite sure what the next game will be, but we will have created it in the next 6 to 9 months. We'll keep you all updated as this happens, and if we run a crowd-funding drive again, you'll be the first to know.
Also, as a final thanks for your support - we're aiming to rebuild STS-96 in the next two months, and then putting it out on Steam for free. As soon as that is done, we'll send you the details and you can play the final, polished version of STS-96.
We may never get to see a Solar Storm, but we'll always be able fly to Mars.
Thanks again, to everyone.
