To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

Space games with focus on capital ship combat

Hi! What games can you recommend me where you have to command one or more capital ships and go vs other capital ships or fighters.

The emphasis should be on simulation, so all of the features of a capital ship should be included.

And it should not be a dogfighting like it mostly is in the X games, it should rather be like in a simulator: you command a whole crew as to what should they do and take everything into account, be prepared for anything, also every thing you do has it's consequences (mostly). It should not be like in Battlefield where you get in a vehicle and command it all yourself. You need to rely on your crew, which does the job, you just have to command...like a pro.

It's not a problem if it's more of a strategy, but I'm specifically looking for those that are close(or closer) to being a simulation game.

Maybe you'll like Starshatter: The Gathering Storm a lot. It's basically Falcon 4.0 in space-dynamic campaign wise, and you can take control of fighters or capships as well as commanding your allies.

I've only played a bit of it, but Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is usually considered a good example of that kind of game.

Coming this year there's Dreadnought designed by germans gamemaker Yager Development. They designed d zombie horror Dead Island 2 for Deep Silver. Check on YouTube.

Who owns homeworld now? Any chance for us to see Homeworld 3?

Gearbox Entertainment has Homeworld and will be re-releasing the first two in "remastered" form:  http://www.homeworldremastered.com/

There is, or was (haven't heard much from them lately) a team working on a prequel/sequel to Homeworld, but it apparently is more ground focused. Its a project by former Homeworld team members that had a project, but were retroactively given permission to actually call it a Homeworld title by Gearbox:  http://blackbirdinteractive.com/games/  However they seem to have been inactive for a while now. Both projects have been rather silent for a longish time, actually.

Wonder what's wrong with gamemakers nowadays. Out of sudden, giant gamemakers stop making sci fi n military combat sims n strategy games.

There are always sci fi n military fans who are ready to buy quality games of these genre anytime. They made it as fans like us only in tiny numbers.

We want homeworld 3

Out of sudden they stopped making those games a decade ago. Now we have sudden resurgence of sci-fi everywhere.
