To all SSC Station occupants

Thank you for the donations over the past year (2024), it is much appreciated. I am still trying to figure out how to migrate the forums to another community software (probably phpbb) but in the meantime I have updated the forum software to the latest version. SSC has been around a while so their is some very long time members here still using the site, thanks for making SSC home and sorry I haven't been as vocal as I should be in the forums I will try to improve my posting frequency.

Thank you again to all of the members that do take the time to donate a little, it helps keep this station functioning on the outer reaches of space.

And it's free.

There's also a plan to release/remake UC based on new graphics assets from Line of Defense.

It's good to see Derek releasing this game for free, like he has done with all the previous versions of this game. Sadly, he doesn't seem to be willing to fix any of the numerous bug that have plagued the game since Battlecruiser: Millennium.

And, if anyone mentions these bugs on the 3000AD website, they get threatened with banishment from the site.

It's a good tactical space-sim if you enjoy high learning curves, and can overlook some buggy gameplay.

Ah, Battlecrusier, I still have that game on disk someplace. I recall sitting down with this for a long time to work out all the controls. Not a bad game once you know what your doing and yes the bugs, although I dont recall any serious ones. Mind you its been a long time since I played it, so I might give this a go.

I have bought this release some years ago and didn't regret it, it's the UC version with the best grafics for the series and most of the original bugs of UC - but clearly not all - have been looked for and corrected when not drastically changing gameplay or interface (to mention: planets are per default further away when jumping to them, corrections in commanding fleets which now is easier with additional orders).

I urge any beginner of the game to concentrate on the MISSIONS, and not concentrate on Free Roaming because this will soon leave you with the feeling of not knowing what to do, not to speak about thinks you want to do but which won't work, mainly related to the FP part :spiteful:

The Free Roaming should be considered as a pure game option for game veterans.

My vision of  the 'perfect' space game is actually a UC version which overcomes all the flaws, a simple game and menu interface, and which makes it for a decent, mission-rich First Person Mode in space. Derek has shown the basics of all that very well.

Thanks, Derek, to make it free 😎
